Hey, I actually spent time working on my GMC!
The tires are aged out, so I've ordered a new set, and this morning pulled
the wheels off to throw them in the back of the truck to haul down to the
guy who will mount them. He gives me a deal because he doesn't have to mess
with the motorhome, and it gives me a chance to take a look at things with
the wheels off.
One thing I saw--the inner tie-rod end on the passenger side is rattlingly
loose. I just ordered a replacement from JimK--shouldn't be too hard to get
that installed before Bean Station (and considering that the Redhead and I
will be out of the country for the 8 days or so before I leave for
Tennessee).
The forward bogie on the passenger side is even looser than before. But I
know that won't fall off. I guess I need to make some time to rebuid the
spare set of bogies I have rusting in the back.
All my hub/wheel-bearing/CV-joint repairs from a few years ago are holding,
which half-way surprised me given my usual luck. I only did that repair
once, and usually any repair I do requires 2.5 attempts.
But I think the front end is starting to make me nervous. So, it's time for
a one-ton--this year. Can someone outline the specific pieces included in
Manny's kit? I've searched around, but can't find a concise listing, and
I'm getting confused (resulting from my extremely spotty presence here)
between the various options.
