Picked up my coach today from Applied GMC with my new S&J engine. Made it home without incident. Runs fine but only 125 miles so we need to get some miles on it before heading down to the GMCWS Spring Rally at the end of the month.
I will be shipping the old engine back to S&J to recover the $300 core charge less the $125 to ship it to Spokane. If anyone in the West needs a 403 core let me know ASAP.

What was wrong with the old engine?
I'm gathering the money to replace the dead motor in my stranded coach. If your motor is "just worn" it might be a cheap way to get the coach home. But that would be a LOT of work for a temporary use....
Let us know how your S&J works out... the numbers put a S&J just in reach, while the desired "GMC specific engine" is not going to happen unless I win the lottery. (sadly)

The problem was a broken ring. It actually ran fine on 7 cylinders for about 5,000 miles including a 2,500 mile trip through the Southwest last fall. Just a little noise I could never figure out. But who knows how much longer it might have run "fine" or how far from civilization we might be when it breaks.
I don't think I'd want to R&R an engine knowing I was going to have to do the same thing again soon. Best would be to rebuild the core and then install it.

The engine was the cheap part. The R&R was twice the cost of the engine. If you can do it yourself it's not that expensive. I couldn't.
