G'day,

I thought I'd start a discussion to outline where and how to use silicone / RTV when building an engine.

If you think anything I have noted below is incorrect PLEASE comment!

You could use silicone / RTV when building an engine:

1) On the intake manifold gaskets and front / rear lifter valley contact area
2) On the valve cover gaskets
3) On the timing chain cover gasket
4) On the water pump gaskets
5) On the oil pan gasket
6) On the juncture of the oil pan gasket and front / rear rubber seals
7) On the freeze plugs

Where you would not use silicone / RTV:

Caveats:

1) Only use silicone / RTV that is safe for Electronic Fuel Injection Oxygen Sensors.
2) Only use enough silicone / RTV to provide a good seal and not in excess where blobs might come off inside the engine.
3) Use the correct silicone / RTV for the area you are sealing.
