Or, why you shouldn't tee people off....
I had noted I broke my turn signal lever.  In the mail shortly thereafter, (after a confirming phone call) came a replacement presumably from a coach which was fitted with a new crusie control.  At any rate, most thoughtful... and as soon as he provides me with the value and shipping costs I'll send him a check. <hint>.
It behooves us to not alienate folks who help us out.  They certainly don't have to, nor do they have to withstand the background noise when it becomes overbearing.

You've got that right, Johnny!

There are people on here that I am really reluctant to respond to and others that I flat out refuse to have anything to do with.

I had the switch in my turn signal stalk go bad and was also given a used one (by Jim D). It's good to stay on friendly terms if you might need some help someday.

I am kinda saddened by what I consider to be a shift in behaviors by some
participants on the gmc net. What initially attracted me here was a great
willingness to offer help to all who asked. Lately, what I would describe
as "snarky responses" have been creeping into some, but not all, threads. I
myself have been guilty of good natured forays off thread in a very poor
attempt of being humorous. I was wised up off net by some members whom I
respect greatly, and have since curtailed that behavior a bit. Please, if
you cannot be helpful when someone asks for it, do not resort to ridicule.
Just my take on it. Your opinions may vary somewhat.

I plead guilty on all counts, but one. I have been helped more than I have helped others, to be sure, but I have had occasion to help. My most egregious infraction is the snark remark, the jest retort, or the overall clown.

The one count I'll not cop to, as I am totally innocent, is that I don't publicly respond to offensive posts. I don't see any profit in doing so, and I feel it's kept me in the good graces of this fraternity. Private seething is never salved by public outbursts.

Come to think of it I may have chimed in on a nasty thread a time or two. The beauty of being over 50 is that nearly everything can be plausibly denied!

Where did I leave the keys for the coach...

And let us not forget the necessary distraction the forum provides.

The Mother-in-law has been visiting for a week and a half. The TV has been stuck on the Hallmark Movie Channel for hours. If not for the activity here, it would have gotten very ugly in the house this evening.

I can't express how angry that mindless drivel makes me. I was watching a few more common sense shows on my computer while the estrogen fuel droned on, and when I muted my stuff during commercials, I could hear the swill on the TV (are all women deaf? Does it have to be that loud?). So I turned the sound back on and the volume up because I could feel my blood pressure going up by the sheer stupidity of the situations created and the even stupider ways the characters dealt with them.

If everyone out there would just step up their posting of problems and solutions, it would help for the next few days (back to normal Monday, I hope).

Hopefully we can blame everything on the polar vortex and seasonal adjustment disorder(SAD) I've got one pile of snow at the end of my driveway that keeps reminding me of what an awful winter we had...if this weekend's rain doesn't melt it I'm going to chop it up and make it go away. Still waiting for the crocus to tell me it's really spring.

While sharing stuff is nice, the real value is the ability to keep a far flung community in touch, and to share GMC specific experience and knowledge. Its like having next door neighbors with GMCs. While distance makes helping with the wrenches impractical, the advice is priceless.

This is what drew me in to the GMC, the idea that there is a community to help you along. Technical knowledge, the black list, specialty vendors to sell replacement parts that fix original shortcomings - These things keep buying a 40 year old motorhome from being absolute evidence of mental instability.

Jim,

Sorry if my comment offended you. I was simply reinforcing Johnny's admonition to keep things civil while not realizing my own comment was somewhat uncivil. I guess I could just hit the "ignore messages from this poster" button, but I like to see what everyone has to say. That doesn't mean I will offer help to someone who has flamed me or one of my close friends (it has happened).

I try to help everyone I can. Have given away lots of parts that I no longer need. I try to be a nice person everyday. I must admit that I have been drawn in by a few newer guys who tend to know everything and need no help. Allowing them to run my blood pressure up caused me to start using the ignore button a few months ago. I have nothing to offer them and they have nothing I need to know. Ignoring them for now is what keeps me coming here.
Works for me.

I still have piles of global warming snow sitting around waiting to melt. My pond is still completely frozen over. Finn was out running on it today chasing a squirrel. Last week while they were rallying in Texas, I had minor amounts of new snow 4 out of 5 nights in a row.

I can't deny that i've also been sucked in and suffered a shift in behavior. For that i apologize. I have had to stop and take a few minutes to think why it has happened to me. The answer I keep returning to is not an easy one to explain without possibly ruffling a few feathers. I do want to say that it is easy to become irritated by others. The hard part is staying polite and getting along. Lately i have taken the easy route a bit too often.

I do suggest that everyone ask themselves what values they liked about this group that encouraged them to sign up. Then ask themselves if their participation is contributing to or taking away from those same values.

Yes it’s been a brutal winter and that might account for some snakiness. Oh, wait - we here on the correct coast are in the midst of a drought. You know - no rain - no snow - no sleet or hail. We’ve been enduring day after day of above average temperatures and blue skies. It’s about all a body can take.

Still - this ignoramus hasn’t had his coach out in over 3 months!

I’m moving to Buffalo.

Sorry - I know I’ll regret this, but it just feels soooo good right now…

I myself being new to this large world of GMC enjoyment am trying to keep an open mind to the people that tend to spear off or get a little snippy on some topics for the fact that they have delt with, been a part of, have the right feild of degree (that I don't have), just plainly know the right answer, or are part of a private situation that I have no clue about for the simple reason that I just don't know half (or less than)of what the great people on here have to offer in advice, ideas, direction and friendly words of support.
I feel proud to own my classics but never have I been a part of something quite so specifically supported. For all that do, I thank you and hope to be able to do the same someday.I want to feed the frenzy that is the GMC friends and forum, to everyting else I will not.

Have you been outside and checked the coast lately. I heard that last earthquake finally shook Kalifornia loose and it is floating out in the Pacific somewhere. Maybe your temps are above normal because you floated south.

Ask Jim K. if he had to take a ferry to get back to Fremont from the GMCMI rally in Texas last week.

I rode 85 + miles of high speed wet sand whoops and rocks today. I'm to tired to post anything offensive ( oh yeah I can do that in my sleep). I bought my motorhome prior to awareness of this list. The assistance I have received from all that answer to questions or topics has allowed me to resolve issues with The Pig in light speed like fashion. If it weren't for the support of some on this list ( an you know who you are ) I probably would have pulled the plug and bailed on my coach many times over prior to now.

I blame you for the fact that I still have my coach.

Where the hell is Kalifornia?
I check the forum every day and really appreciate the information I have received from it. However I do NOT appreciate politically motivated slurs. I do welcome GMC information from knowledgeable folks from any part of the country but I do NOT appreciate California being spelled with a "K". This is ONE of the reasons that I have not renewed my my membership in GMCMI since almost all of the insulting spellings of California seem to come from their members.

Good night all.

First of all you need to lighten up a little bit.

Where you got political out of Sully's and my postings is beyond me.

Also strange is the imagined connection of a misspelled word to GMCMI. I'm trying to figure where that came from.

I pick on Kaliforia, Illinois, Gawja, Misery, Oklahoma, Hoosiers, Fords, Fram, Apple, and Kansas all with equal opportunity. Oh yes, let's not forget to include the Canucks and Aussies.

I'm from Kalifornia and have relatives scattered up and down the state from Redding to San Diego. I also have a few in the next state over in Reno and Truckee. Over the years I have lived and worked in several locations in the San Jose and LA areas.

You are welcome to block Sully's and my postings in your email or forum profile. That way you will not be offended in the future.

Have another beer on me.

Sully have a great trip in "The Pig"

I just let the dog back in and I'm going back to bed.

WeÂ’ve been enduring day after day of above average temperatures and blue skies. ItÂ’s about all a body can take.
