On the way home from Tucson the day before yesterday we developed a cooling leak on the back of the intake manifold. We had just gotten into Albuquerque and noticed the leak under the coach and located the leak. It was a seepy leak at the back at the #8 intake. Called CadCompany/Fast Automotive http://www.cad500parts.com and they said that they can get in to work on it by noon yesterday. They said that they might get it done by the end of the day yesterday. When they got it apart they found that the wrong gasket had been installed when the engine was build. The gasket did not match the intake ports correctly and had barley sealed in spots. It was fortunate that the coolant only leaked to the out side of the engine and not into the oil side. They used a FelPro 1356 intake gasket set. We were on our way in less than a days loss in travel time and they provided great service at a fair price. They also changed the oil and filter, fixed a exhaust leak and a small proble
m with the power steering. They are the same guys that Jim K uses and have done major work for other GMCers in the past few years including an engine change. They also have bought Potter Performance Cadillac Parts.

John,
Next time you winter in Tucson, the Saguaro Jetset would love to have your group attend some of our rallies in the area. It is a fun group.

Emery and All,
The engine was put together by Buskirk Eng. when the coach was built in 1997. It has a little over 31000 miles. It consist of a Jasper RV 455 long block bored .030 over for a total size of 461 cu/inches. This was when Jasper was hand assembling the RV motors, before they got cheap and started turning out junk! It has a RV cam, I do not know the grind but it runs and pulls great up the hills and mountains. The induction consist of a Accel Gen 6 MPFI on a Edelbrock Aluminum manifold with electronic distributor. It has a Mondello valley tray inside. The final drive is a 3.21 and the Trans is Lenzi Designed unit by Precision Transmission in Bad Axe, MI and has a 3.50 chain drive from Manny and provides a 3.66 final ratio. The tech at CMS/Fast Auto said the gasket was incorrect for this setup. They put the intake back on using a FelPro 1356 intake manifold gasket set for the Olds 455 engine with port size 1.40” X 2.40” and a thickness of 0.060”. This set has the blue O-ring style around each port opening including the water passages.

Awesome! Keep an eye on the GMCSJ website. It seems like most of our rallies are within an hour or two of Tucson lately. Guests are welcome.
