Hi All..
I am sorry to flood the list with questions... But I am ready to start the Light Remodel full tilt!
I am probably going to add an auxiliary Evaporator for the A/C while I have everything out.. But my heater works no better than the A/C so I was wondering if anyone has added an auxiliary heater.. I have looked on line and was surprised at the lack of those kinds of units.. Maybe I am using the wrong terms.. They used to be available as little boxes with a blower installed.. Lots of them as I recall..
If you have what did you use and where did you put it..?
Any ideas or pictures would be most appreciated..

If Jim's sources don't work, I think I've seen the little heaters in the J.C. Whitney catalog/website as well. If Jim can fix you up, its always a good thing to support our vendors!
These heaters seem to be a seasonal item, and only shown in the fall and winter catalogs.

No reason that they shoudn't work, there is plenty of hot water available to heat the coils. There were some pictures on the photo site a while ago, but I don't have a link, sorry!

Ron,
I have a small water heated heater that came out of a bus type GMC.
It's a green thing with a small radiator with a 12v fan in one end. I
haven't installed it yet but will over Winter. There were no
identifying marks on it so I don't know where it came from or who made
it. Wait! I'll run down the hill and check again. ---

Back from the woods. No id on the heater at all but here are pics of
the unit.

Ron, when you deal with these coaches, customers show us all kind of
accessory and special things. Being the true Ornamental that I am, I make
sure we can provide them at good prices.

I put an aux heater under the dinette seat. 30kbtu and it is plenty big on capacity. Have one under the drivers seat too like Richard Archer did. Keeps the feet warm.

Where did you get it? That one is neat as it could be mounted with a floor register..

This heater was in the GMC bus that I bought. It was under a seat and
definitely didn't look this way when I dug it out. {:>) So, if you
can find a Hertz or similiar GMC, there might be some lurking under a
seat. Just look for the vent. The one in the pic has been cleaned
and repainted for future installation. Since my heater has been
removed now, I use asmall electric one if I inadvertently get caught
in the cold, I'm thinking I can possibly wire this one up to work with
the house thermostat. Another possibility is using a pump to use the
hot water heater as a source in a loop system.

Why not take the rear heat/AC from like an older R12 Suburban? Then you have the whole thing ready to go.

Ron, use what you can get. The only moving parts to the add on a/c or
heater is a fan. Pretty simple.

Ron,

Typically there are some pretty significant air leaks in the cockpit of the GMC's. Hopefully someone who is more familiar with them will chime in with their location. Arch's picture albums probably describe the fix.

Hal..
We definitely felt them on our trip home from Rocky Mountain this past week..
It seemed like the A/C was on..
I will pull the side panels off when I remove the seat and see what I can find.
Do you know how to find Arches pictures.. I am a bit lost in the GMC Photo pages unless I am led by the hand!

Ron,
If you have the GMC Motorhome Service Bulletin Book look at 77-TM-1 for the
cold air fix. Won't get them all but does get 90%. It may be on bdub's or
Gene Fisher's web site.

Ron,
If you look under the hoods and see the black stuff that's oozing down
the inside of the body, look above and that's where the air leaks
are. That black stuff was used to seal between the floor and body
sides. It melts and drips away from the supposed sealed areas.

Arch used can foam inside at the base of the floor and sides of the
coach and beware, he also fused his fender wells as the foam expanded
out of the area to be sealed.

Here's the link to his albums:

I was wondering if anyone has added an auxiliary heater.. I have looked on line and was surprised at the lack of those kinds of units..

Hi, I added a aux heater to my 26 Glacier.

The heater coil came from an S10 pick-em up from Ebay.
The hot water comes from the Hot water heater circiut, in series, I think the aux heater gets the hot flow first, then the hot water heater.

I used muffin fans, wired to run in parallel (full speed) and in series ( low speed ). The fans are controlled ( on and off ) by the thermostat for the furnace (added a switch goes between aux heat blower and furnace ).

The aux heat unit is mounted in the rear by the water pump ( rear on curb side ) and blows the hot air into a duct which takes it to the hallway, this heats the entire coach.

Very effective.
