Mark,
Congratulations on solving the tranny/vacuum problem!
Since you're touring Texas on the way to Montgomery consider stopping at these excellent Texas State Campgrounds.
And if you like astronomy; visit the Mac Donald Observatory near the Davis Mts. Park. "The stars at night are big and...etc.etc.

If you're not short on time The Big Bend State and National Parks are worth a visit as is the Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross University in Alpine.
Enjoy the trip.

As we drove to this RV Park the neighbor hood looked a bit scary, HOWEVER, when we got there and parked we found it to be
one of the BEST maintained RV parks we had ever stayed in. There is a bus that stops right in front of the entrance that will take
you downtown near the River Walk.

Thanks Gene, we already intended to go to Big Bend State park, but we will now probably visit one of these parks as well.
Thanks for the advice!
Hope to see you in Montgomery.
Marc

Marc,
Last your, about this time, Kathy and I went to San Antonio and Fredericksburg, TX. It was a great trip and we did several of the attractions that Rob suggested. A really nice surprise was a stop at Hueco Tanks State Park, near El Paso, on the way back. We were only going to make it an overnight stop, but we liked the place so much we stayed an extra day.

It is a beautiful area with nice RV facilities. We even got a guided tour to some of the petroglyphs from one of the seasonal workers. We also got to meet Richard Andis and his wife and talk a little GMC.
We stayed at Traveler's World RV Park in San Antonio, right along the river. We rode our bikes on the river walk and to several of the missions. It was a great location. We even ran across a couple from the Pacific Cruisers there in their Palm Beach.

Have fun. I wish we could be there, but work and distance will not allow it this time.
