Hi All,

We are back in the States after a great time on the beach in Mexico. I seem to have fully recovered from my stupid fall off the top of the coach with only a very sore tail bone to remind me to be more careful next time! The painters did a good job on painting the top and lower part of the passenger side after repairing a fracture at the lower rear corner and at the bottom of the rear bay door on that side. They used Imron on the top for durability and an acrylic enamel on the sides and front cap to match the repaint the PO did many years ago. Amazing what they are able to do under less than ideal conditions.

The SandJ engine continues to purr like a happy cat. We are seeing lots of 6 percent and steeper grades coming from MX to St. George, UT, where we spent a couple of most enjoyable days with netters chuck and jane Field at their magnificent home in Kayenta and will now spend a couple of days at the remarkable Elks Lodge in St. George overlooking a golf course. From here we will boogy over to Zion NP, then back here before heading for Santa Cruz to see our sons and their families. Expect to be back home around the first of the month.

Lots of mountains to climb and descend. So far, we have pulled all of them in third gear at no less than 4 inches of vacuum, no less than 55 mph and no more than 195 degrees water temp indicated. The engine has never felt or sounded strained.

Part of that I attribute to a properly fitted remanufactured SandJ engine, part to having set the cam timing 4 degrees advanced, part to the 3.67 gearing, and part to using only known brands of regular fuel with the Archoil fuel additive. No hint of vapor lock. Once we get home I will calculate accurate fuel consumption based on total fuel consumed and miles traveled corrected for the ODO error occasioned by the gearing. Looks to be about 4% off now. Seat of the pants says mileage may be a bit better. More later.
