Upon removing my tanks and fuel filler tubes to restore and install hard lines I got a little over zealous with my ratcheting tubing cutter and caught the edge of the tee and crushed it...any suggestions? It is brass? and quite malleable.

Sean,

If you cannot find one rightaway you could place a socket inside the lightly tap the outside with a hammer to reshape it. You may have to use sandpaper or a wire wheel on a bench grinder to clean up the sharp edges.

Also make sure not to hit the raised part (the bead) that helps keep the hose in place.

Tony (Ontario Canada)
Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm.
Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage.
Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.

Sean,

I would find / make a wooden plug to go in it and with a second piece of wood very carefully tap the raised area down just enough so
it did not interfere with installing a NEW hose to the front tank. Try not to bugger up the bead.

The less you mess with it the better.

Thanks....I'm having a minor lapse at the moment....I tried to open it up a little...
If the URL within the IMG tags does not contain an extension associated with an image, the forum server displays a broken link and (no matter what) the interface between the forum server and the email server removes the tags and link. On a URL (with the URL tags), the interface only removes the tags and leaves the link. So... To post something that will be useful to BOTH forum users and email users, you need an actual image in IMG tags (which will be visible in the forum), AND a url (without IMG tags) that will show up on the email side for the people still stuck in the 90's to open seperately in a browser.

Want to come on down to Greenville, SC and help me work on mine? That was an excellent job of fixing a screw-up.

Sean,

That looks real good.
But I have to ask, Why were you trying to shorten it?

If it is difficult to assemble, just dampen the surface with ArmorAll and then slip it together.

That stuff is a great rubber lubricant.

Matt, I was disassembling everything to drop the tanks and install CuNiFer hard lines and dual Carters....the 73 and 74 coaches have a total of 6 rubber couplings, the ratcheting cutter made easy work of the couplings (which are being replaced) unfortunately the tee had very little space between it and the tank nipple and I accidentally compressed the cutter on the tee crushing it, the "before" image was actually after I opened it up a bit with the butt end of my razor knife, then I panicked because it looked like it might kink. Calmer heads on the net prevailed and my second attempt was successful.

Sean,

I'm glad you got it straightened out.
I've never had to cut the rubber coupling to get a fill line loose. I will tell you that it is bags easier to get the fill line out first and in last.
