I just read that Pilot/Flying J will no longer be offering any form of
discount card after Dec. of 2014.
This is gonna cost us unless FMCA can come up with a solution !

So the discount no longer being offered next year is $.01/gallon? I was never really impressed with the scope of that discount. We do better at Kroger.
We are really sorry to hear of the passing of OscarWaldo. We bought 3 of his key chains. We will miss him too.

Discovered a small secret to the Kroger Gas Discount. When you purchase a gift card, you get 4 x points. Purchasing an Amazon gift card for $100 equals 400 points; enough to get you a 40 cents discount per gallon on your next fill-up or 10 cents a gallon discount on your next 4 fill-ups. Limited to 35 gallons per fill-up. Discovered this as we left the area where we had Kroger's.

Tom,
I'm a sucker for Kroger points. Normally they only offer 2x fuel points on gift cards, but certain times of the year, (like Easter, graduation, Thanksgiving, a few others) they run a 2 week or so promotion with 4x points. And, when those times come up, I definitely stock up on gift cards, since I buy a lot of stuff through Amazon anyways.

Rob,
I don't remember all the specifics, but a friend of mine tried the Mastercard gift card thing and he said it wasn't a good deal. I think they don't offer the 2x or 4x points on those, and there might be some kind of redemption fee as well. There is a lot of fine print that they don't make very transparent.
Just fyi, there are several other provisions that keep you from becoming an oil mogul, though. (most of these they do a good job of noting.) The discount is for a max of 35 gallons in 1 "vehicle" purchase (the vehicle can include lots of 5 gal. cans, though, since I NEVER get less than 35 gallons, even when it isn't GMC season), and most of the time, a maximum of $1.00 off per gallon at a Kroger gas station. (You can also get $.10/gallon off at Shell stations, but they are usually not a bargain where I live.) There was one summer where they raised it to a max of $2.00 per gallon, but that has been a couple of years. And, points can only be used in the current or the following month, but don't combine across months and expire in the second month if not used. You can accumulate a lot of points, though, and use $1 off on each of several fill ups, if you go gift card crazy and are doing a lot of GMC driving in an area where there are Kroger stations.

Craig,
Helen and I both have Kroger Cards for when we come to the USA and we collect points which we use for buying gas for the GMC so when
I spotted Tom's note I figger'd maybe there was a way to get more points for gas. I'll write down a mental note to check into this
deal when I get back to Humble this summer. There is a Shell station just in front of the Kroger store where we buy a lot of
groceries when we're in Humble.
Thanks for the heads up!

I got the info from FMCA magazine, March issue 2014, page 14 column 1.
Nothing will be different until ...as I previously said.... December 31,
2014.

I get .08 off on diesel but have quit buying there as all they have is bio diesel and it's not worth the 15% to 20% hit in fuel economy. Hard to believe it's that bad but the VW TDI as well as my Series 60 Detroit both seem to take a major hit with it. And yes, I keep a record of every drop of fuel that they use.
