G'day,

Is there anybody passing through Chicago on the way to Montgomery who would be willing to carry a switch pitch transmission with
torque convertor and a 3.21 to 1 final drive for me?

I would be more than happy to make a contribution towards your gasoline expense for the trip.

Regards,
Rob M.

You should have said something before I cancelled out on Montgomery.

At least this one does not have to go through customs.

How much does it weigh? I'm thinking it could go on a hitch mounted carrier.

I'm not going to Montgomery but if someone is coming south through Indiana, I could go get it in Chicago and meet them with it somewhere in Northern Indiana.

Ken,

Thanks for the offer! Since hauling a dirty and heavy transmission / final drive inside a GMC would not be appealing to me I would not expect anyone else to do it. I would be more than happy to purchase one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-capacity-deluxe-cargo-carrier-66983.html#.UxKBOBf_CSo and http://www.harborfreight.com/5-ft-6-inch-x-7-ft-6-inch-all-purpose-weather-resistant-tarpaulin-953.html#.UxKBkBf_CSo and http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-1-inch-x-15-ft-ratcheting-tie-down-set-90984.html#.UxKB3hf_CSo. These items would be given to whomever brings the transmission to Montgomery for doing me a favor.

What Rob forgot to mention is if anyone is coming through the northern 1/3rd of Indiana, I will pick up this trans and final drive and carrier in Illinois and meet them anywhere in the Northern 1/3 of Indiana. So if you are headed south on I-65 or I-69, or US 31, I'll gladly meet you with all of the stuff for Rob.

Actually I could to the same for I-55, I-57, or I-39 in Illinois.

This thing is currently located at US-30 and the Indiana-Illinois state line.

Rob also has several alternate plans to have it available other locations in the Chicago suburbs. He just needs a volunteer coming through the area and we will get it to where you are coming through.

The last time that I talked to Rob, he still did not have a volunteer to move this trans and final drive. They are not that big. I moved one from California to Indiana in a coach and it sat underneath the dining room table.

We are suggesting carrying it on your receiver hitch and you will never know it is back there. I went to Harbor Freight yesterday for Rob and bought a hitch carrier, some ratchet straps, and a blue tarp. So I now have everything needed to install this carrier on a coach and to keep the items dry in case of rain.

All we need is a volunteer coming through Northern Illinois or Northern Indiana to take it to Montgomery.
