I hope most you take positively my updates on the many comments recently
posted on this thread.

All Parking brakes are still Drum/Shoe Technology. I found no Hydraulics
systems used keep a vehicle in our weight Range used as PB.

Brake Actuation ,howerver is changing..........With a push of a
button....... Linear actuators are pulling cables and small servo motors
are clamping Rotors embedded in calipers.

It appears that most of these systems are on mostly Hi end cars and trucks.
I'm sure they will migrate to lower end products quickly.

No matter how you cut it, Parking brakes are still mechanical.............
but they have evolved into very costly electromechanical systems. Rob
Mueller you were correct about the Volkswagen, Push the button only after
you depress the service brake pedal and you have a motor actuated clamp on
the rear Disc. I wonder what the replacement tab will be when the motors
stop living in that environment?

It would appear that we could retrofit our coaches with some new Technology
that is available to mobility impaired drivers. Take look at the info URLs
listed below.

I and 15 other folks still like the DRUM/DRUM Version of the reaction arm
technology. I Will continue my journey with my manual rear drum PB solution
In an effort to help the Disc brake folks who have nothing.

Let's not forget the Branscombe PB Cable sytem for you folks that
have stayed with the DRUM/DRUM technology. When you look at the
alternatives, his efforts are very simple and cost effective! BTW he has a
few potent KH Ball ramp calipers that are mechanical and at last check they
were still available.

Here are URLs that tell the rest story!

Tom,

Thanks for the links!

I wouldn't be concerned about the "replacement tab" those calipers (Continental?) were designed by GERMAN engineers! ;-)

Actually our older decider trucks were gas jobs and the airline went with juice brakes and the park brakes were spring applied with a hydraulic actuated, well like a maxi pot. You needed hydraulic (power steering pump) pressure to release the park brake, had a switch or if the engine died they would apply. Had to Ron a separate ps pump though,
So that got me to thinking, how about a maxi pot? You have air anyway for release. They do work backwards, push apply so you would have to build a fulcrum but they are pretty cheap and with the travel provided with the maxi pot and the travel needed by the park brake optimization of fulcrum length should be able to hold well with flick of the switch application.

Then there's always the hydraulic Mico brake lock. But, I didn't find the installation instructions to be accurate.
