No owning on my coach, and sooner than later gonna need one here in sunny Idaho. Found this and wondering if its the sort of thing to look for

What does something new cost, and what is the cost of re-upholstering something like this one?

He is probably trying to get rid of the old Carefree so that he can buy a new ZipDee.
My ZipDee is now 30 years old and the fabric looks new and it operates very smoothly

Emery,
That is the same awning as is on Double Trouble; however, it appears it does not have the metal slat cover over the fabric. That is
not good as the metal cover protects the fabric.
Below is the message that I posted last week in response to a query TomP had.
That is the same awning as is on Double Trouble; it is an A&E Awning. I think the model number is 9000 but I'm not sure. I believe I
have the Owners Manual for it unfortunately it is in the USA and I'm in Australia. A&E was bought by Dometic.

Rob,
That awning looks strange. The closest end and support arm appears to be A&E, while the distant end appears to be a Zip-dee.
Look closely at it and see if I am wrong.

I think that is because is slightly out of focus. It appears to be an A&E, what used to be the 7000 series.
Back in the 80s, Zip dee sued A&E for trade dress infringement for the polished cover and hardware on the 9000 series. It also put the kabash on something I was trying to patent and market with Faulkner, the Add A Wrap
Yes, you can cut down the tube shorter if you carefully remove the spring. It is also possible to cut down the fabric and re seam it if it is in good shape. Im not sure if the current replacement fabric is the same size in the channels.
Emory, you are right. Zip dee rocks. They were expensive, but they hold up so much better long term. Their customer service was second to none and what few warranty problems we had were quickly handled. I have a 9000 in good shape, but if I ever have to replace it, it will be a A Zip Dee.
But back to the OP. For 100 Id grab it if you are at all handy.

Ken,
I see what you've noted; where the rear arm passes in front of the brightly lit window it looks skinnier! However, if you look down
near the bottom you can barely make out the handle that pulls the pin out of the arm.

The A&e and Carefree look very similar. The Carefree doesn't have an aluminum slat cover. It has some aluminized fabric at the inside that covers the fabric. Which is why I thought it might be a Carefree.

Put it this way, the curved arms and from what I can see at the front end in the FUZZY picture it looks like an A&E, however, since
it doesn't have the metal outer cover says it is likely to be a Carefree.
At the end of the day Zip Dee's RULE! ;-)

If I were you, I wouldn't be giving any thought to an American awning. The
Omnistor from Belgium is, IMHO, a much better solution -- to the extent
that we went to the trouble of importing a bunch of them some years back:

By the way, the "Dethleffs Premium" (Sp???) mounting brackets worked

Does anyone know how much a complete Zip Dee goes for give or take a little ?
I have been in contact with them and they will not give up the price on email, and I want to call them at this moment.

Back in November of 2009 JimK quoted me $1,645 plus freight from factory.
I bought a used one for $400 from Joanne Bishop a couple of years ago.
They turn up on eBay or on the Swap Meet now and then.
Your problem will be having it shipped to Norway!

One problem with buying an awning is shipping. I think that price is close, but shipping is $300-$400. You are shipping a 20+ foot tube and the shippers get you on that.
I would budget $2000 after all is said and done for a zip dee mounted and installed on your coach. But i would say that purchase is good for life.
Used ones can be found but takes some luck.
$100 for this one is a deal for those that have limited money and want an awning.
I have a used zip dee on mine, And they are nice. I bet mine was shading someone for 20-25 years befor it is shading my family now. I plan on getting another 30 out of it.

Jeff,
We are a dealer for all awning manufactures, so we can get you any parts
for all as long as they are still in stock.
I prefer the Zip Dee as they are the top of the line product.
Dometic acquired A & E awning, Carefree is the other.
I'm not sure, but only the ZipDee and A&E supply units that fit our curved
side MH.
