When they play for gold, the loser gets to keep Justin Beiber.

They play hockey without pads in OZ.
They call it Australian Rules Hockey and figure it's much tougher than
this Olympic version.

OK you wise guys!

The Australians play FIELD hockey and they're pretty good at it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_men's_national_field_hockey_team

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_women's_national_field_hockey_team

They also do have an ice hockey team but it is rather undistinguished to say the least:

I could not get not get any of your links to work, but from the title it sounds like our game of golf. A bunch of old guys ride around in electric or gasoline powered carts and swing at a little white ball occasionally.

I do not think that is a Olympic sport yet. But after curling one never know what they will add next.

Golf will be an Olympic sport in 2016 in Brazil. Men's field hockey has long been an Olympic sport, one the U.S. has always stunk at since it is primarily a female sport here in the U.S. Get a European to give you his take on the American football sometime. I had a college friend whose grandfather was visiting from Italy. We took him to an Eagles vs. Redskins game and asked him what he thought after.

I don't remember the exact quote but it was basically, in heavily accented English...

"fat guys stand up in line. Fat guys push on each other and fall down. Fat guys take time out. One guy holds ball, he falls down, everyone takes time out. Game made up of everyone falling down and taking time out. Referee blow whistle. Referees take time out to talk. TV take time out. Coach take time out. Quarter end? Timeout. Halftime? Long timeout. Game stupid, no one understand rules, not athletic when guys stand around more than move."

Wish I had it recorded somewhere because it was a 5 minute rant that, from an outsider's point of view, is 100% correct.

When I lived in France, American football use to be the occasional topic in the local pub after work. I use to say in American football we run for 5 to 10 seconds and beat the hell out of someone in the other team until the ref says he has had enough. Then we rest for 30 seconds and start the cycle all over again. The Europeans thought it was dumb, but they also said the we had a dumb president. Any president one who would smoke marijuana and not inhale had to be dumb.

The American Hockey team just walloped again by Finland 5-0.

I have only seen it on TV in the Olympics. I understand there is a curling place somewhere around Chicago. It is not real popular in these parts. Now real hockey is a different story. Some of the local high schools and most of the university play "real" hockey.

Speaking of the Chicago Black Hawks, Glenn Hall was my idol growing up ..I
studied him and his moves and tried to copy his style! Eventually, I had
it down cold !
Unfortunately, I didn't have his talent! <VBG>

Rumor is that they are going to move that entire US Men's Hockey Team to the Philippines for the next Olympics and rename them the Manila Folders.

I know it's an old joke but it applies. This is what happens when you put a bunch of professional players in the Olympics. I liked it better when only the Russians cheated and had professional players.
