The EU2000 Honda will run an 8500btu Coleman only!  The EU 3000 will be what you want but it will not fit in the hole, been there.

We are still struggling with this.  The first Dometic 3000 worked then it didn't , can't wait to go further and fing out why.  Currently, the only unit that will work with only 1 AC in the Onan microlite with I don't know ab out.  I have stayed away from Onan.  We are still installing Honds warer cooled 6010, an awesome unit.

If you know more, let me know llesse, so far the Dometic has cost me a lote of money and hassles prototyping.

Hope this helps,

Jim Bounds

My Kipor 2K won't start an AC unit but when I hook 2 in parallel, the AC will start painlessly. I'm guessing that 3K is about what you would need to get the AC to start--at least for invertor types since they have no tolerance for a momentary overload.

Has anyone given thought to mounting two Kipor or Honda units externally on one of the bumpers? Jim B mounted one on the front of a vdub bus. I am not ready to get rid of my Onan but someday may need something different. We only use ours to run the one air conditioner mounted near the door in center of coach, while running down the road.

The little Onans aren't the equal of the flathead twins in longevity, but they work.  They're compact, you can hang one under the floor of an Econoline without problems.  Which we do with our Econolines.  The early ones had some problems with the alternator end bearings, I'm told this has been corrected.  JimK might know if and when there was a change in them.  Ours have held up fairly well.  I've one in the shop with mounts I took out of a van we had stolen and wrecked, if you want to take a look at it.  It's a 2800, which I would consider marginal but would run a small roof a/c (13,500).  Somewhere I heard Onan also made a 4KW microlite, if that's correct it would be a better choice.  Be aware, they're a two pole alternator.  3600 RPM.
I favor, and we used in our step vans, the 5.5KW - 7.5KW opposed twin family replacement.  It's a v-twin OHV engine design, and (for an extra hundred) is injected.  Alternator sits beside the engine, both vertical shaft, belt drive.  Engine runs 2400 RPM.  According to Blalock (who became Cummins - Onan South and then Cummins South Power Products) at one time the drawer vendor was attempting to package this unit in a power drawer.  I never heard that they successfully did so.  These are the Cummins Marquis Gold, now called  RV QG series gensets.
Dimensions: 33.6" x 22.2" x 16.7" High.  Pay the extra (used to be $100) and get the fuel injected one, as opposed to the carbureted.  Starts instantly in any weather, but rubber mount the fuel pump.  If it's clamped to the frame, the whine is objectionable.

I lean towards the Henderson Solution.  There are a number of 'contractor' sets of reasonable output, mostly made by the Heathen Chinee, which will fit in the genset bay.  They can be quieted down to bearable with a bit of effort.  They look to be about 20 - 25 cents on the Honda dollar.  Much less complex, which is to me a plus.  And the price difference would cover the second a/c.

I have powered a Coleman Polar Cub (8500 btu) with a honda 2000 for many years. A little taxing on start up. I specked this combination for my truck mounted camper. I am considering adding a Polar Cub as my second unit on the GMC. I think it would be nice to run the Smaller Polar Cub off the Honda over night when boon docking.

I am wondering if the stock electrical system could power 2 ac units if one was the smaller Polar Cub? That would be 13,500 + 8,500 for a total of 22,000. Ii am guessing that would draw near or above the 30 amp power capacity of a stock GMC.

Hi, Jim.

Will the Honda 6010 fit within the space allowed for the Onan 6.0 and power drawer? I have the two 6V batteries on the slide out tray in the space behind the Onan. My Onan has apparently spit out its oil and I am picking up a 6010 next week.
