A shovel makes putting on a wheel much easier. Put the tip of the shovel under the wheel, push down on the handle to lever the wheel up and into alignment with the studs and shove it on. Faster to do than to describe.

I have owned more than a few cars with non-hub centered alloy wheels and one had wheels nearly as large as the GMC. I never lifter a wheel to hang it on the studs, I would let the jack down until it was close enough to kick the wheel onto the studs. When one stud had enough through to get a nut started, I did. Then give the jack a push and roll the tire so that stud is up and the rest now protrude. Spin down the other nuts and one or more will engage enough to center the wheel. Then the others get run down.
This is actually what I do with the coach tires, but then I have to fight the rim over the hub and the nuts don't help at all.
