I think GMCES was going to have a rally near here a few years ago and it fell through, but this is sad news about the 'vette museum.

I feel for "any car guy" that has something bad happen to their vehicle. Even though I'm a Chevy guy - I hate to hear about a Ford guy who had his car stolen, a fire or wreck. I know in most cases that they are a replacable item, depending on how rare and money invested, but it is still sad.

The one I'm sad about the most is the 62. I have always love the 1960 and 1962 year Vetts since high school.

G'day,

The security video showing the Vette's fall into the sinkhole made the 6:00 Channel 9 News in Sydney!

AFAIC it was just a bunch of Vette's, if it had been a GMC Museum THAT would have been a REAL tragedy!

Couldn't resist! Wink

I used to live the next county over. I watched a sink hole develop one
afternoon. It wasn't as massive but, still, the ground level dropped 15
feet and took out 40-foot radius.

The limestone base is still actively washing away underground. One never
knows when a hole will develop or where.

I built the Spyder so it has a personal hurt. However, i suspect most of the cars will have minimal damage when all is said and done.

I wonder if the floods a few years back did some undermining. Beach Bend Park was under water to the overhead signage at the dragstrip. I usually bring the GMC to the RV park there for the GS Nationals. Good news it wasn't during business hours with kids in there. I would think most cars could be restored as they don't total that easy at those numbers. The recovery process will be interesting as well as the fate of the building.

Good news.
GM design has announced plans to restore the damaged cars.

Typical of what one would expect from the liberal anti-business press I heard a news commentator say that the incident was terrible and they should make the coal company that left that mine pit pay for the whole thing.

Mine pit? Crazy. There is no mining within 120 miles. Warren County is on
the edge of the cavern region.

Interesting that the sink hole was under the rotunda of the building --
the original part of the museum.

The museum almost closed four years ago but the city/county chipped in to
keep it going and expand it.

They pulled the first Vette from the sink hole today, the blue '09 ZR1. Fired it up and drove a few feet.

That's good. I'm sure it's a complicated process for safety reasons and trying to not do more damage in the process

We attended a GMC Eastern States rally at Bend Beach RV park there several years ago. We had a 80 - 100 coaches as I remember. One of the activities was going to the Corvette Plant and another was visiting the museum. Jeff Sirum gas a ride over there so we did not have to drive out GMC. It definitely was worth the trip.
