Just purchased a Backup Camera system. purchased from a company that installed them on large box trucks and this one was left over. With the system came a nice voyager color camera, 50' of voyager cable. Also included was an aftermarket 2 camera monitor (can't find a name anywhere on it)with wiring cable kit and a couple voyager RCA adapters and a couple aftermarket(that matches monitor wiring) adapters.

The Voyager plug connector is different then then monitor cable plug.

Does anyone have an idea of a company that could help be figure out what kind of adapter I need to hook the camera to the monitor?

Thanks in adavance

The camera article on the GMCEast site mentions the camera supplier. They may be a source for your needs.

Voyager, but they don't work with end users. You have encountered the
problem, not the typical adapter thought the right one is available.

You could try www.rvcams.com. If the guy feels certain you'll buy
something from him he might help. Don't hold your breath since you already
have the main components.

You could also try www.jensenrvdirec.com. You may find what you need there.

Though I haven't dealt with them, you cold try
http://www.americanrvcompany.com.

Chance is that Phillips is the OEM on the camera for Voyager but there is
a small chance it could be Sony.

When I said Phillips in the other email, my thinking was off a bit. How
about Audiovox for the monitor brand?

I'm thinking the monitor is a no name that was made in the great state of China. I talked to the guys again and they purchased them in bulk. One guy said they used the RCA plug adapters to tie them together, and guess I could go the route, but a real adapter would be perfect. I don't have a lot of cash in this system and could sell the monitor and purchase a voyager monitor but hate to spend more money. Am really at the point in my project that I needed the cable to install so I could finish up the interior ceilings, and walls. But need to figure out how to connect it..

Thanks for the websites, I'll email or call and see if they might help.

What does the Voyager cable connector look like? Photo please. Generally, these are composite video cameras and only need a ground and video lead connecting them. However, Voyager may provide power down their cable to the camera. Many systems use power from the back-up light circuit. You really need the pin-out to determine the proper connector. Too many different listings on the referenced web site, you did not post the model number.
It can be done, but more specific information is needed. Are you going to use a generic composite video display. For example, my Magellan GPS has a composite video input designed for a rear view camera. (wireless).

I added some pictures. Just not very good pictures. One picture shoes RCA adapter plugs with the voyager Plug that has a yellow and white RCA plugs with a power and ground wire. In same picture is the plug that matches the monitor it has a yellow RCA plug and a power and ground wire. I guess I could connect the yellow video plugs and connect the power and ground together to make it work.

The voyager plug is a push in to lock with a red washer on the male part.

The monitor plug is a push in but also has a twist lock o it.

Connect yellow to yellow, this is the video feed. Hot to hot, generally red. Ground is probably common to both the video feed and power feed.
White RCA plug is audio connection.
No idea where you would find the Voyager plug. Definitely not Radio Shack.
Description sounds like the camera power feed could be either from back-up lights (normal), or a separate driver controlled switch. Your choice.
The locks on the connectors help keep the wires connected as an anti-vibration device. May also help with weatherproofing. I would cover the connections with either heat shrink covering or coax seal, especially if the connections get buried in a difficult place to get to.
Checking photos again, in the first one, the Voyager camera cable is the top one and the monitor cable is the bottom one. Based on this, the monitor has a yellow RCA plug for video and a 3.5 mm power plug. You are going to have to figure out how to put power to the other end of the monitor cable. It might be easier to use a separate video cable and build a separate power cable, instead of fighting the OEM no name adapter. This is the route I would take, especially without access to a large collection of available connectors.

Thanks for the reply back. voyager cable plug is simple to find. Having trouble with the other one.

I think I will mock it up and make sure it will work. That's the only way I can figure out to do it.

The monitor directions say, red wire to power green wire to reverse lights. I am going to run the system on a switch and not the reverse light.
I am thinking. Tie the red and green together on one side of switch and hot led to other side. That way I can cut it on when I want it wit a toggle switch.

I don't see a green wire in the photos. If you can get the matching Voyager plug, use that to build out your connecting cable. Probably need to do a pin out of the connector, if you cannot locate a correct pin out for the connecting plug.

Green wire is in the wiring harness for the monitor. The way I understand the directions on the monitor wiring: red wire for power (Power to monitor all the time) green wire to reverse (puts power to camera when put into reverse) black to ground.

My thinking: To operate it off a toggle switch, connect the red and green to switched side of toggle switch and power supply to other side of switch.

Turn the switch on and it all comes on.

Down side to installing it with the adapters I have I can not have audio..

not a deal killer.

Okay, green wire makes sense now. Red for monitor power always, and green to feed the camera. But, then you need to connect the red lead of the camera to the green lead and the back-up lead to trigger both.
I would suggest you dummy this up before you attempt the install. Be easier to trouble shoot on the desk top.

I do agree. I think I will go ahead and run the voyager cable I have because it mates right up to the camera. That way I can continue on with my interior ceilings and wall panels. cable is way to long guess I'll tuck the overage behind the closet or someplace.

Thanks for your help. Always good to have another opinion.
