GMC Friends,

A funny thing happened to me today.
I got a call from a production company that is filming a movie (here in Miami) that is set in the seventies.
They found me on the GMC.net.
They want to use my GMC in the movie.
And they are paying me too ! Shocked
I should be paying them.

They wanted it for Thurs., Fri. and Monday, but unfortunately the Mrs. & I are headed out of town camping tomorrow (Weds.) till Sunday in the GMC.(I would cancel but people are expecting us)
But, I will be on set Monday morning.
I look forward to this experience, and hope to get a good story from it that I will share with you all.
Stay tuned.

I personally know several people who have 'rented' their classic cars to movie studios. All regret it. Cars were returned having been beat to hell, paint scratched, interiors abused, in general driven like it was stolen. They ultimately got paid for the damage but all consider that they never got back the cost of time and damage. The universal opinion is 'never again.'

I hope you are going to be there during filming or even better driving.

Thanks for the tip.
I am told it will be in the background.
And, No one will be in the driver seat but ME !
I don't care much about money, so I can leave at anytime if I am not comfortable with the situation.

Good deal Glenn. Let us know when and where we can see it. They chose a good looking coach for the movie.

Fellow GMCers,

A quick thank you for making me aware of the negative side of things.
I just sent an e-mail to the production company explaining that I will not be comfortable with my GMC being abused in any way.
Thanks again for your concern.

Sincerely,
G2

Movie production folks will use, abuse and consume just about any person, place or thing and not think a thing about it. Also it is likely that you would not be able to drive and control your own vehicle, despite what you are told, because at the last minute you may be informed that a union driver is the only person who can position and or move any transportation type prop.

It is likely the person you are dealing with is an independent agent who finds and delivers props, in this case a vintage vehicle, at the request of the production company. These agents collect a fee and have nothing to do with the management or control of what takes place on the actual set. Sad to say, but there are those that will say anything to collect a fee.

Most unusual or vintage vehicles used in the movies or other productions are fleet vehicles and not someone's personal baby. The production folks usually deal with the fleet owners as they do not want to be bothered by a concerned individual private owner. When the fleet or prop houses do not have something the independent agents go looking for private parties to fulfill the request.

If the production is non-union you could perhaps be in control of your own vehicle.

G'day,

AFAIC the movie / entertainment industry is filled to the brim with totally egocentric people!

I back up that statement with the following question: Can anyone name any other field that gives itself as many awards?

The Military. :D (hey, he asked.)

As for the thread title, be careful. Personally, I'd decline unless it was
a youtube feature your doing yourself.

As for me, my 1988 Fiero was going to be featured in "Practical Magic" but
It was pulled at the last minute-- replaced by a ragged chevy pickup. lol

Sammy,

Technically you're correct; however, just exactly which entertainment industry award do you feel is on par with the Congressional
Medal of Honor?

Well lets agree to disagree. My position for it: Both the MoH and the AA
are for the "pinnacle of performance in their respective areas. The AA for
show business and the MoH for Heroism.

Absolutely!

You equate an actor that wins an Oscar for making believe they're somebody else on the same level as a Medal of Honor winner?

Yeah right!

"If the production is non-union you could perhaps be in control of your own vehicle."

And even if it's union you most likely will control your unusual vehicle anyway. The guy just cant be bumped off work that day because of you driving. It's called ghosting. You have a new buddy for the day. The films insurance might be a different thing.

Hey, it's not a Pacer or F150 and that Teamster or IATSE Stage-tech knows that. He didn't get that position by being damage prone. The slightest incidents involve investigations from both sides, substance abuse testing etc. Somewhere no one wants to ever go because of reputation in a very microscopic industry. Beware the non-union shoot which makes up the rules as they go.

Be nice, they'll be happy to see you are around in case anything happens that they cant figure out. He might show where craft services are and introduce you to the cast, who he knows because he or she safely transports them around before and after shooting.
