If this is of enough value to do I suggest we keep in mind that better is the enemy of good - so make it simple and easy for all of us non-professional owners to do rate our experience with the engine builder we selected. I also suggest keeping separate rating of the engine builder and the R&R supplier.

I think it would be more valuable for most of us to learn that 80% of buyers had an unpleasant experience with builder X and a like number had a good experience with builder Y, than it would be to see a long list of details on all the transactions for both. Similarly there would be great value in knowing the approximate cost of engines from highly regarded and largely derided rebuilders so we get some objective idea of bang for the buck. My guess is that price and experience will be correlated, but such an unfettered, simple rating process would answer that question and guide most owners to the best builders.

Sure, there are many variables depending on drive style, peripherals used, break-in process, owner's tolerance, etc. but these things will average out over a number of ratings so long as the ratings are made freely without editing. It is also clear (to me anyway) that the long range solution will be crate engines if and when we can get a fourth gear in our transmissions so we can gear these things the way modern trucks are geared.

All this said I don't want to push on a rope so if the interest is high enough we should set up a simple rating process, if not we can put this one to bed.
