I know the answers will vary greatly by user, but I'm stuck trying to decide between 15"(seems too small) and 24"(lot of space for something I'm not sure we'll use). I'm thinking mostly with regard to the side-bath Birchaven as that seems the most constraining. What say ye, Oh Great GMC Hive Mind?

A 42" that drops down just behind the cockpit?

I think mine has a 16" in the rear dinette/bed area. A 19"-20" would prob be a good size for the front area.

Perhaps get a 17" Notebook PC and just store it in a cupboard when not in use. With our SOB (Arctic Fox Camper) we drove cross country twice using a PC for DVD's, games, and occasionally TV with a USB tuner similar to this:

I put a 32" led on the wall where the bar unit used to be to the left of the entry door of my 77 royale. About the biggest that would fit. The upper bar portion was removed and discarded leaving the lower cabinet w drawers.

It may be cheaper and more useable to source a mid-size pure sine wave inverter (300-400 continuous watts). The 16" LCD TV I use for the boat runs on less than 20watts, has a 27watt startup. I chose the Wagan 400/800watt because it is pretty small (7"x2.5"x4.2") and space is a premium on the boat as well as in the GMC. $116 at Amazon.

I have had a free standing flat screen in my coach for several years.
Mostly it is in the way. Pretty much all of the time that we use our coach
we are at a rally somewhere, and find live entertainment (people) are far
more interesting. But that is just us and our preference. I took the
Winegard batwing antenna off the roof and made an aluminum panel to cover
the hole in the roof using the original holes. Used closed end "pop" rivets
and 5200 3M sealant. No leaks there now, and there was before I fixed it. I
do have coaxial cable connectors through the outer skin if I ever do decide
to watch TV. Never even turned it on in 7000 + mile trip across Canada,
But, that is just a personal preference. Your experience may vary. I have
seen flat screens mounted to the panel on your left as you enter the coach
with an articulating mount that pulls out and makes viewing possible from
the front of the coach. Other mounts have been a folding one that stows
against the down side of the upper cabinets directly behind the drivers
seat, that deploys downward and faces the rear or the passenger side of the
coach. Both those mounts utilized 15" flat screens. I guess that how ever
you personally use the coach will eventually dictate where you mount one
and how big is determined by the space available.

I know, based on experience, that this is what will happen. But I also know that my wife *thinks* that TVs are required, still. I don't mind working out the logistics, and sort of like the challenge of patching in new tech with the speaker system already onboard.

Anyway, it might come in handy with a grandkid in tow.

I now have a 19 " that drops down from overhead cabinet behind pass seat. Started with 15". Might up it to 22" some day. Running a 14" in the bedroom. It is just a monitor with a modulator on it.

No TV, but I do carry a 13" Laptop.

Camping is the only time I can sit outside and stare off into the distance for hours without getting antsy.

the open bottle of wine may help some too I suppose...

One of those flip-downs is attached to the ceiling of the Sprinter van I bought. I just don't like the ceiling-mount for some reason ...can't say exactly why.

I actually had this 22" in my cart when I balked and decided to ask GMCnet. I've ordered this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCS0WY8/

with this articulating side-mount bracket

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ID7QNI/

It'll give me somewhere to start hands-on but it might not be my final solution.

I'm still in the blue-sky stage of how to make this the distribution hub of an RV media center. It seems a shame to not patch it into the existing speaker system or the mech-less radio JimB put in the dash which has usb input.

Unless I get some sort of epiphany, it now seems the easiest to just wire it into that, but bluetooth/raspberry pi and other assorted currently available magic keep swirling around in my head.

Trevor,

Your electronic environment is somewhat different than ours, but for here,
I wouldn't consider that Pyle unit. Since it's only a monitor, interfacing
to a receiver of some sort will be necessary. Since its only video input
is "composite", it won't interface directly to any current laptop or tablet
computer, most of which have only micro-HDMI outputs. Cables are enough of
a hassle without having to locate, wire in, and live with an
HDMI-to-composite converter, not to mention that composite is the lowest
resolution interface extant.

I am working backward from whatever relatively inexpensive screen had an hdmi port and, secondarily, what accessories comes with it. With hdmi, I can use Chromecast or even a laptop or Raspberry Pi as the media delivery system. With a tuner and dvd as bonus, the one I listed above seemed to be the best to try. But hdmi is the new gotta-have.

A 48 would be perfect for the front, set it on the table when not using,
put in a cabinet when not. for the bedroom a 22 would be perfect. and for
the Xbox 360 in the bath, a 19 would be perfect. (I have a 32 in my
bath--its perfect for showers. lol)

I bought a small flatscreen from the Episcopal Church thrift store for $10. Hated to spend the big bucks, but nothing is too good for "Cousin Eddie."

Hooked to the antenna digital reception is free and incredible if you're in a city with a television station.

I haven't mounted it yet but it'll go somewhere up behind the passenger seat.

The general rule of thumb on HD TV's is:

big is good,

bigger is better,

and too big is just right.

We have a 19 inch Sharp mounted over the bed
and a 23 inch Sharp with a built in DVD mounted above the dinette.
