One minor additional thing that I did but is not totally necessary. When running the wires I included an additional 3rd wire. One wire end was connected to the module mounting screw with star washers (ground) and the other end connected to the engine block (also ground). I believe I used the coil mounting bolt.
I did this after helping someone else with an intermittent ignition on an Onan. Even though we thought we had a good ground connection at the sheet metal mounting point we still had problems. A good wire back to the engine block took care of the problem.
I could not tell from the pictures of the kit about the mounting bolts, but I had one that vibrated loose over time using lock washers. So I suggest that you keep the lock washer but use the tooth/ star type for good grounding and use a locking nut with the nylon locking feature.
The one that vibrated loose was mine and it kept running until the module hit the flywheel. I had to buy a new module and this time I used the the nylon insert locking nuts.
That was a very good write up with pictures.

Ken,
Then there's the dumb ass that decided that putting the Pertronics pickup closer to the flywheel would be better, he was correct,
better at getting it smacked by the flywheel!

When I replaced the module and used nylon lock nuts, I experimented with the gap to see what effect it would have on timing. I do not remember the maximum gap it would run at any more any more but it was much higher than I expected.

That number, .060, rings a bell and as I remember I got it over .120 with it still running.
Melborne to Sydney hauling a 450pound Onan is quite a haul. As I remember that was around 450 statute miles the way a crow flys.
They do have crows in Australia don't they?
Do the fly on right or the left?

I was looking at the install photos and the directions say set at .020 inch clearance then I read about to close of settings and the pickup gets damaged. So from the ones who have made their own brackets and such what is the minimum to clear flywheel and max to run. I love to get one of these kits but sure don't want to waste a pickup first thing. Thanks
