I have been looking for an article that Jim Bounds wrote on window tinting. I can't find it anywhere, I checked his Daily Prose, and his website. I read the article a couple of weeks back and just can't put my finger on where it is located.
I have a spare set of toll windows that I am refurbishing and would like to put a 50% tint on the glass. Glass shops want $35 to $45 per glass to install the tint. Size does not matter.
I found this website for tinting material but there is no warranty on the product:
http://www.windowtint.com/Car-Tint-By-The-Roll/
I checked with a local glass shop about purchasing a quality tinting material but they would not sell it to me. Dealer instal only because of the lifetime warranty.
Anyone know of a quality tinting material I can purchase.

Bruce,
Solar Gard Ultra is the product I had installed.
Sun Ease Window Tinting in Boulder is a Solar Gard Dealer.
I wouldn't worry much about a "lifetime" warranty on a $100 purchase of quality film. It's the installation that's important.

Bruce, based on your request and many others like it, and to help dig out all our GMC stuff from sites scattered about, I just added a new generic bookmarklet.
http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&th=28796&start=0&rid=2865#msg_num_7
If you're using a desktop browser, drag it from my webpage to your toolbar. Then go to any co-op page and click that bookmarklet on said toolbar. You should get a pop-up. Put in the word 'tint' (no quotes). That's how I found it.

If you can put on an iPhone anti-scratch cover without getting lint under it, you can tint a window, if you can do an iPad, you can do the back window...most difficult part is the film creates so much static, dust jumps from a mile away to stick to it. Window film is actually easier, the water eliminates most of the static...but as Keith said...clean, clean, clean!

I remember when Texas passed a "window tint" law covering the amount of light blockage allowed. The police of Brownsville equipped all their patrol cars with meters to read the degree of tint. As I recall, the fine was $50 per window, with every piece of exterior glass called a separate window. Local "boy racers" paid many fines for their dark windows. Out of state licensed cars were not exempt, neither were those from neighboring Mexico.
check to see the legal limit on tint, and which windows cannot be tinted.

I only tinted the house windows, nothing in the cab.
I figure I can drive with no windows or with the curtiansd down, so whats the difference.
Also every minivan has dark tint on the passenger windows, so I'm not at all worried.
I looked at Jim Bs instructions briefly, maybe I missed it, but you really need to cut back the window seal on the inside by about 1/8" This allowsthe tint to overlap the seal so you don't get that little sliver of light around the edges of the window.
Also remove the sliding window, it'a much easier!
Also remove the vertical bars int he fixed window or you again get that annoying sliver of light. It's hard to put back on with out crinkling the tint, but it's worth it.

On my first post there is a web site with a tool bar on the left side. All
the way down has a website that gives the regulation on window tinting for
each state.
http://www.windowtint.com/State-Window-Tint-Laws/
The toll windows that I am refurbishing sat under a cottonwood tree for
eighteen years and after being removed from the donor coach they were
drenched from the flood that took place 5 months ago. Needless to say they
had collected a lot of crap on the windows as well as in the tracks. I
have disassembled the windows and have the six pieces of glass cleaned and
all metal strips removed. I have sand blasted the aluminum frame pieces
and will take them to a local company (Precision Coatings) for powder
coating. While I have the glass out it would be a lot easier to tint the
individual pieces of glass.

Miguel,
Please clarify what you mean by "fronts." I assume you DO NOT mean the windshield?

There is a shop we use and they do a complete GMC all windows, and the toll windows for 400.00 complete, have had my own done and
the work is great but, I went one step above and had the fronts UV filmed, wow, that works so good, my knees no longer get hot and
the cab really stays much cooler
