The damper was gone when we got the coach. Been thinking that GM spent the money to put it on to start with. And we can't have vendors like Jim K starving over the winter. RIGHT. ( GRIN ) Our 78 Royale drves fine to me. Does it help much?

FYI. Just found out that Auto Zone will UPS. For delivery tomorrow morning to my door, the steering damper at no extra charge. Damper with tax. $26. and change.
The damper was gone when we got the coach. Been thinking that GM spent the money to put it on to start with. And we can't have vendors like Jim K starving over the winter. RIGHT. ( GRIN ) Our 78 Royale drves fine to me. Does it help much?

Hey bob, I just got a cyl for my coach from auto zone. It was the same size

and configuration as the one I took off.It had 2 inches of free slide.
Being a hyd mech for 17 years I knew this was wrong, so I went out and bought
one from auto zone for 25 bucks.
I have steering issues and this was the third place I went,  I know I have nuckle problems
but with the weather conditions and working on the ground this was one of the easiest
changes.
The bolts to install it are 5/8 x3 3/8 and 5/8 x2 1/2 with jam nuts

Rivers, wow, your bolts were considerable larger:

“bolts to install it are 5/8 x3 3/8 and 5/8 x2 1/2”

Than the ones I pulled out of mine to do some repairs, which were:

“7/16 x 3 and 7/16 x 2-1/4”

I have a GM damper from an Eldorado that I scraped . It feels great. But I'm not into used parts when the new part aren't that much more. I think that these dampers are more for bump steer. And there's a little help for wander.Bob Dunahugh Happy to be a GMCMI member. Are YOU?
