Some additional Cord/GMC motorhome trivia. This from the Cord 810 Owner's Manual as published in Cord Model 810 and 812 Owner's Companion by Dan R. Post, ISBN: 0-911160-54-X:

Pages 26 & 27 talk about the inner CV joints being four ball while the outer is a caged six ball "constant angular velocity type universal joints" that look remarkably like on our GMC coaches. Front wheel alignment is listed a 1-2.5 degrees of caster and 0 to 1/8" toe-out - quite similar to the spec for our coaches and with approximately the same percentage difference in front and rear track as our coaches. It had a driver selectable two ratio top gear - 3.88 for "performance" and 2.75 for "cruising", about the same range we hear discussed here as being "ideal" for our coaches whether by flatlanders or those of us who live in the mountain west. Also similar to the current quest for a driver selectable 4 speed auto transmission for our coaches so we can obtain something like both these ratios.

Power was a long stroke 90 degree V8 of 288 ci with aluminum heads and pistons. Interestingly, engine oil was pressure delivered with "Intake of the pump is through a floating mechanism which draws only clean oil from the top of the supply". Their form of intake manifold heat was "The intake manifold passages are especially heated during the first warming up period of the engine. This is accomplished by an ingeniously arranged thermostat which circulates warm water directly from the cylinder head around the intake passages. This feature results in a shorter warming up period for the engine and at the same time protects the intake manifold from excessive heat after the engine has reached normal operating temperature." Wish ours had something like that, perhaps we would not be seeing so many cracked intake manifolds after all these years of use.

This on a 3500 pound car running on 6.50 x 16" bias ply tires that had one of the lowest cd of the day which they said required only 22.5 hp to overcome wind resistance at 60mph compared to 28 hp for "ordinary designed car" and which had such a low center of gravity that they claimed it could not be tipped over in normal driving. Sound similar to the claims for our coaches? Top seed was 100 mph. Ground clearance was a bit over 9" with 10.5" height of body floor from ground.

Enough on the Cord stuff but there are some very striking "coincidences" between this front wheel drive design and the design of our front wheel drive coaches.
