WOW. Did Bob de Kruyff hit the upgrade nail on the head. I'm as guilty as the next person on changes on our GMC. GM did a good job building our GMC's. How many RV's of that vintage are out there to the extent that these are. Time how shows the strong, and weak areas in the design of 40 plus years ago. Weak area's are few in my mind. In the front suspension. The real problem was that GM didn't grind smooth the bore that the front wheel bearings ride in. The bearing gets a little loose in that bore. And it's downhill from there. I just worked with this issue on two 78 Royales. One needed so many parts from the frame, to the lug nuts. The one ton was the best solution without a dough. Yes, the one ton moves the wheels out. But there's more to that topic then meets the eye. And the bigger rotor, and caliper. There are laws of physics that doesn't give you as much as you think. It's a good kit, and a good choice in some situations. That's why I installed it on the one GMC. Th
e second GMC. Everything was in great shape. Except the bearing bore had about .00150 clearance between the bore, and bearings. I got two bearing sets, and two knuckles with grease fittings in them from Dave L. The GMC is how good for more years then I'll be around. As to the rear disc brakes. GM did what was common back then. I was having issues with the rear brakes. So I got the rear disc brake parts gathered up. In the mean time. I got the drum brakes working well. I'm now going to put that disc brake system on. I think that there will be an improvement. And it will help my comfort zone. Will I continue to change things. YOU BET. Next is EFI. And put the Q bag system on because of the wheelchair ramp that rides under the coach. Haven't had to turn the air pump on in 2 years. This GMC is part of my life, and hobby. Just like taking my Yenko's to track events. And changing them.
