Ken,
I am retired so don't need sophisticated computer programs anymore (I remember paying $7000 for a sign program once).
I could finance trips to the USA if I could locate and purchase old collectable British sports cars for the right price and on sell them.

Peter, are you talking MG's, MGB's, Sprites, TR4's or more Lotus, Morgan,

In any country the Manufacturer will set prices based on what the market will bear.
Here in Canada we routinely pay much higher prices for goods than what we would pay just across the border. Autos and auto parts are a very good example. I watched a Canadian TV program where they tried to buy a new vehicle in the USA. As soon as the Dealer was told they were from Canada the Salesperson backed right off citing some "law against it". Truth is there is no problem bringing a new vehicle into Canada. The Auto Makers slap their US Dealers if they do since they can charge 20-25% more at Dealerships in Canada.

When we are vacationing in some place like the Dominican, I see the cleaning staff carrying two-way radios which we sell for about the equivalent of the yearly wage of the staff carrying it. I'm sure it sells in the DR for maybe 20% of what we sell it for.

And of course there's the flourishing North-->South trade in prescription
drugs for the same reason.

Gary,
Close to those and more especially Jaguar XKE, only the bugeye sprite, early Triumphs not MGB but MGC, MGA and MGT's Early Porsche is acceptable also (non British) I guess anything 1950 through to 1972 including American. Gives a wide scope for financing trips to the USA for GMCMHI conventions.

My brother gets most of his scripts filled in Canada.

I understand that most legal and illegal drugs are cheaper in Canada.

Which reminds me,

What is the difference between illegal and unlawful?

Unlawful is against the law, while ill-eagle is a sick bird.

That is for Mike in NS. I knew he would appreciate it.

Trevor,

Interesting, there doesn't seem to be any Customs Duty charges on that invoice. The GST (10%) figure of $2,507.40 means that the
landed value (cost of the GMC plus shipping costs) of the GMC was computed to be $25,070 AUD or 22,425 USD.

Looks like the $30,000 I paid for The Blue Streak converted to RHD and registered was a bargain! Too bad I was dumb and tore it
apart!

Do you mind if I point people at your invoice when I'm contacted about the costs to import a GMC?

Regards,
Rob M.

sure Rob Point away

i believe that duty is not applicable due to the age of the coach

gst is calculated on shipping costs plus purchase price

Trevor,

Thanks!

I'm going to have to re-read the Australian Customs and AQIS documentation for vehicle importation, I haven't read them in years and
requirements / costs probably have changed.
