Finally got my two steps, ordered the polished ones, for the main and rear
door, Thanks to Ragusa, very nice guys out in California, now just need to
wait for warmer weather and get them put on ;)

Has anyone ever put them on the rear entry door? or had a rear door?

David,

Front step: The curved part of the step mounting goes against the bottom of the fiberglass under the door. I can't remember if mine
came with large fender washers or not. If yours did not I would suggest you get some and with the bolt head facing down put one
between the nut and the body to distribute the load over a greater area. The flat part of the step mounting is attached to the
frame. Normal washers are fine there.

Rear step; The frame curves upwards in the back which might cause difficulty in mounting the step.

Regards,
Rob M.

Nice and shiny!

the hardest part is drilling the holes to mount it. I bought a low clearance drill, actually a right angle adapter, to do it.

I can come over and help when the weather breaks.. So like April? LOL

One problem with the Ragusa step is the outside bolts are mounted to the body while the inside bolts are mounted to the frame. All weight of people stepping on the step is supported by the two bolts in the body so oversize flat washers are recommended. The two in the frame only slightly holds the step in place.

The body is not mounted directly to the frame and it is riding on rubber shock mounts that we call "body isolators". The GMC body does move around slightly in relationship to the frame so you really do not want all 4 bolts holding the step rigidly in place.

I suggest the you cut 2 pieces of thin rubber to be used as a shims between the step and the body. Then rigidly mount the step to the body. On the other two frame mounting bolts I suggest that you drill the hole in the frame over size and use rubber flat washers between the step and the frame and also between the nut head and the frame. When tightening these two frame bolts I suggest that they slightly less than snug and that you use the nylon insert type locking nuts so they will not fall off.

By doing the above you will allow the step to move slightly in place as the body moves while going down the road.
