I'm a member of another self-moderated list. While rants occur there too, it has a self-disciplined protocol that facilitates people using the delete key.
Like I've done in this message, and others have done here, you put "Off Topic:" or "OT:" in the subject. It's really just a courtesy to all list members for messages to have an accurate subject line. (Also applies to thread hijacking/drift...)
You can't regulate or legislate people's emotional responses to issues. But with a little self-discipline from the posters, readers can use the delete key and avoid getting sucked into the waste of time.
