G'day,
In my opinion the discussion regarding the way this forum is run has gone far enough.
Actually it's a very simple problem to solve.
Bob, since you brought this up I would suggest that you review all the emails that have been posted and either yourself or one of
the other people who don't like the way Patrick, Bdub, and Gene moderate the GMCnet start a new one.
You can set it up with rules you want and have a moderator that has zero tolerance for any message that does not follow whatever
rules you establish TO THE LETTER.
Those of us who are happy with the way those individuals moderate this forum wish you well and will continue posting to the GMCnet
and accept it and all its foibles.

"All postings should be GMC motorhome-related in some way. Net etiquette is strongly encouraged at all times and the list is intended to be self- managing. Postings are unmoderated and therefore the list requires members to be responsible and courteous in what they post."
Rob -- this forum is not moderated. I have no complaints about a moderator that does not exist and appreciate the people that spend time and effort to maintain the framework of this board.
However, it is intended to be self-managing. Some of us are bringing up ideas that are an attempt at self-managing in respect to the very first line quoted above.
You suggest if we want to follow the written policy, we should leave. Thank you kindly for that advise, I will take it under recommendation. Until then, I will make subtle and infrequent attempts to help with the self-moderation in line with the written rules and regulations of the list.
If you don't like my attempt to follow the actual rules of the forum or the message list, that is your choice. Feel free to ignore my infrequent attempts or all of my posts. I would not suggest you leave as you provide a lot of information that people benefit from.
Your frequent adherence and reference to the maintenance manual is invaluable, perhaps some people will find my adherence and reference to the site TOS valuable as well.
Lets not find ways to encourage people to leave, lets try and find ways to keep the GMC motor home knowledge here.

I'm confused!
Here's what I note on the opening page of the Forum:
There are 9 members(s), 0 invisible members and 24 guest(s) visiting this board. [Administrator] [Moderator]
Also from time to time Bdub, Patrick, or Gene will chime in and get people to reign in if things go to far. When Gordon S. went open
loop he was removed from the GMCnet and the Forum.
Like I said I'm confused!

Oh you can be removed for bad behavior. It's all laid out in the TOS. You can read them here:

What I've quoted comes from section 5. It's a quick read. Posts are unmoderated but if you are a very bad poster, then the people who run the list reserve the right to remove you.
So there is a SPECIFIC prohibition against politics and religion, a general prohibition against being a jerk, and a bunch of prohibitions about causing technical problems for the list. Finally, at the very bottom, this nugget:
"Violations of these guidelines will result in private warnings to the offending party. Continued violations after these warnings will result in the party being removed from the list. Any instance of overt mailbombing shall result in immediate removal from the list. All such actions shall be solely at the discretion of the Listmaster and Directors."
So we are basically on our own to follow the rules, but there is a way for a higher power to intervene in extreme cases, but not on an everyday basis.
I suppose based on this nugget
"Questions regarding the appropriateness of a any post should be directed to the Listmaster."
we could pester Patrick about dozens of things a week, but I'd rather not do that. The rules are pretty cut and dry, but since the list is basically self-moderating it depends on if anyone wants to actually ask that they be followed and if the people really want to choose to follow them.
For example, in this entire series of conversations I haven't seen a single post that I think warranted moderator intervention (if there was one). I did see a lot of posts recently, and an a seemingly increasing number, that warranted a discussion about self-policing about the lack of GMC content and the abundance of specifically prohibited material.

Basically what should have been done is that David Orders should have brought Michael Bozardt's proselytizing and Howard Nielsen's
tag line to the attention of the Listmaster and Directors and noted that he found them offensive and asked them to rule on the
matter.

Rob - The one post I made regarding Howard's tagline was months ago, and he and I worked it out and moved on. If the other post you are referring to is the one that promoted faith healing for curing cancer, again that was quite awhile ago and I've moved on.
It seems the loudest protests are coming from those theists complaining that they can't say whatever they want whenever they want and not have someone ask them not too.

Rob--you need to have another close and introspective look at your post and try to reflect on what and where you stand in all of this. You posted this with capital letters to indicate you are angry. Then you try to insinuate that enough is enough but by the very post you are creating more issues and responses. You also try to make assignments which may have worked when you were employed. You may be at the very root of the problem. I did not start this. I only commented about it.
