The young Big White Dog several of you met is gone.  It's been a bad year for dogs around our place, we're short three.

Johnny,

The medium John Edwards (not the senator) said he communicate with the departed. He often made remarks that the dog was with those departed. I hope that is true because there have been I few that I miss still.

Sorry to hear that Johnny. Every time I lose a dog I swear I'm going to go without one for awhile, it just too hard to lose them. So far the longest I've made it is two weeks. If you do get another, be sure to post some pictures. - Dave

Johnny / Tom,

We can empathize, Shadow, the cat I found in an alley in Tai Kok Tsui, Hong Kong succumbed to renal failure while we were in the
USA. It was particularly hard on us as we weren't there when she was euthanized.

I had to remind Helen that had I not found her and brought her home I'm sure she would not have had the wonderful life she had and
made it to 16 years old in a Hong Kong alley!

The thing that's particularly sad for us is that Stumpy, her fellow Hong Kong adoptee, still wanders around the house looking for
her and calling.

Rob,

Beautiful cats. You’ve done well by them.

I know this is off-topic, but when we lost our Trevor earlier this year one of the places I turned to for support was this forum. You beautiful people offered sympathy and good wishes that helped in a tough situation. For us, our little guy was our constant companion. He was in the coach as much as anyone, so I feel as if his mention belonged here on the list. This is what communities do - they share and sometimes bicker - but always grow together.

Johnny, Tom, and Rob, I hope you’ll be flooded with happy memories - enough to wash away today’s pain of loss.

Johnny,

So sorry for your loss. As a child, I always felt extra sorry when I heard about someone loosing a family member or a pet during the Christmas Season. Heck, I even was distressed to see a traffic accident or someone pulled over by the cops! It is especially hard to deal with grief and loss at a time when joy and happiness should prevail.

Johnny, This is a short version of a card we got from our vet when we had to put down our Bichon, Beau, full name Beauregard James Hopkins. It is hard to read & type. I hope it gives a little comfort to you and yours.
Larry

The Big White Dog is waiting by the Rainbow Bridge just outside of heaven.. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and they are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill or injured are restored to health.

They are happy and content except for one thing; they miss someone very special who had to be left behind.

They run and play but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance, his bright eyes are intent, suddenly he breaks from the group flying over the grass faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting face of your pet, so long gone from your life but never from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Thanks. The GMC is an excellent vehickle to go get rescue BWDs in, they turn up pretty much anyplace. I don't do active rescue anymore, just hauls and home checks, but we always sent this version out to the folks when we placed one:

Rescue At Rainbow Bridge
Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a
swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this
before. But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people
knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway
leading to The Bridge to watch.
It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung low and
tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for a
while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.
He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign
of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The
Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and
vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the
other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the
sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But, alas, as he
approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel
who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only
those animals who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge. With no place else to turn, the elderly animal looked toward the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like himself, also
elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The
Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and
waiting.
One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for awhile
to explain it to him.
"You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as
you see him now, an older animal with his fur graying and his eyes
clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the
love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence.
Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort
him across The Bridge."
The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what
will happen now?" As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds
suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be
seen a single person and among the older animals, a whole group was
suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy
again, just as they were in the prime of life.
"Watch, and see," said the second animal. Another group of animals from those
waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each
bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored animals fell into line and followed her toward The Bridge. They all crossed together.
"What happened?"
"That was a rescuer. The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who
found new homes because of his work. They will cross when their new
families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found
homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final
act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they
couldn't place on earth across The Rainbow Bridge."
"I think I like rescuers," said the first animal.
"So does God," came the reply
