I have the gauge set and have used it many times on R-134 systems. It seems to be decent quality for occasional use; my set has held up well. Will require adapters for the R12 system, or change the R12 fittings to R134 fittings.

You can guy a good one for about the same price as the knockoff. Google "Robinair Vacuum Pump".

http://www.amazon.com/Robinair-15150-VacuMaster-Vacuum-Pump/dp/B000GTIR5K/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1387390895&sr=8-8&keywords=robinair+vacuu m+pump

Same price with free shipping.

I wouldn't be hung up on two stage. It would just be a bit faster but unless you're going to be doing a bunch, the difference might be 20-30 or less minutes to pull to the same vacuum.

I got the vacuum pump, mine is red on the pump end. Has been a very good pump. Use a coupon or code or something, I remember only paying $79 for it and the sale price now was the regular price then, probably about 3 1/2 years ago.

I have the 3 cfm vacuum pump. It works well. I have had it about 3 years or
so. I take it to rallies with me and often check A/C systems for others
with it, as well as adding refrigerant. I do not particularly like Harbour
Freight's gage sets as their hoses are too stiff to suit me. My r-12 set is
an Imperial that I have had since the 70's. R-134a set is MC, made by
Robinaire. Had it since refrigerant R-12 got to be about $75.00 a pound.
High quality gages read correctly and are very shock resistant. Cheap stuff
is just that. Your opinions might vary.

I bought the HF gauge set several years ago for an R134 automotive job.
It came with the adapters. Without the adapters it works for R12/R22.
The hoses were severely cracked within 3 years and looked far worse than
the 40 year old hoses on my Yellow Jacket gauges that I occasionally use
for refrigeration & A/C. Otherwise the gauges and manifold work fine.

Mike,

I have the 3.5 CFM two stage pump here in Sydney, I chose this model over the 2.5 cfm for two reasons; it pumps 1 CFM faster and
more importantly it pumps down to higher (or should I say lower) vacuum; 22.5 microns.

My "Rule of thumb" before buying any powered device from Harbor Freight is to download the manual to check the specs and read the
reviews.

The spec for the 2.5 CFM model does not provide what HF refers to as Ultimate Vacuum and the 3.5 CFM model does, things that make
you go Hmmmmmm?

The reviews can be quite humorous in as much they show that some people DON'T HAVE A CLUE! But for the most they can provide an
insight into whether to buy the item or not.

Summary: the single stage 2.5 CFM pump will do the job adequately but for $40 more why not go for the 3.5 CFM.

Regards,
Rob M.

I have the gauge set and it is my second R-134 set. The hoses are stiffer than I like, but the couplers are what make it. The (expletive deleted) that designed those standard quick connects that are the service fittings for R-134 should be sentenced to using them with the original designed couplers. They are very hard to get on and off a charged system and stay clean. The couplers on this set go on, and THEN you use the knob to open the service valve. When done, you close the high side valve and open things up so the high gets sucked to the low then close the low and disconnect cleanly.

Gents, your in-put is appreciated ...but I wonder Rob if you have a full
understanding of Medical Marijuana. Well, no matter, I'm using Medical Beer
instead, and $40 will buy a lot of "medicine" ! <g>

Thanks Guys!

Mike,

This is funny I WAS going to note that for $40 you'd probably only have to give up one bottle of single malt! Now you tell me it's
beer you're using medically!
