Learning about and looking at possibly purchasing a GMC.
I did a search before asking. I honestly did not open "every" post. But the ones I did talk about rear air bags only.
Is the Air Ride system only on the back of GMCs?
Or did they find a way (with the axle shafts and all) to mount air bags on the front too?
Thank you,
Tony (Ontario Canada) Marie and I are blessed to have had a 2nd chance to buy our farm. Still hoping and more importantly praying to be able to build a garage. Our 1970 Ultravan #520 has an Olds Toronado 455 in back.

The air ride system is only used on the rear suspension. Front end uses torsion bars.
Jim Bounds was investigating an air suspension system for the front end, but I think he's put that project on a back burner. With all the modifications that have been made over the years, perhaps the front will have an air ride as well, but I wouldn't hold my breath as the current system works quite well.

I had air shocks on the front of my '69 Fairlane wagon...they were inside the springs, same suspension design as early Mustang/Falcon. Really firmed up the handling and it rode nicely. I had forgotten about that option for getting the GMC front end raised, and I've got several styles of air shocks stored away, so I think I'll check that out soon.

You'd better plan to seriously reinforce the lower shock mounts if you add
air shocks -- the originals fail fairly regularly without that extra load.
