Anyone tried to build an overhead console above the windshield? I've seen a few other motorhomes with this, some even build their TV into it....
Any input, ideas or photos would be helpful, as I'm kind of thinking about this since I have to put a new ceiling in anyway...
Thanks...

Steve,
My PPO was a pilot and put in an overhead console with a bunch of gauges, including an altimeter. The overhead console is a two-edged sword. I like the additional gauges for the most part, but I don't like having to look in a totally different direction to see the rest of my gauges. It also prevents my sun visors from folding all the way up so they are basically horizontal in the up position. It impinges on my visual comfort space though it's not really in my line of vision. A taller person would have a bigger problem with it. I also don't like the wiring running up the center of the windshield.

Galbavy, go ahead, make everyone jealous. Show what a Prevost shop can do.
By the way, some of Mac's ideas for dashes came from OTR coach builders.
I think the only console that makes sense is one down the center and not too
wide. I've had several friends hit the rearview mirror enough to understand
only short people would tolerate something the full width of the cockpit
area.
Kelvin's modification of the Blazer, like Keith used, is excellent.
Personally, however, I'd put the lights on a separate switch. Having
speakers in that location makes great sense, too. I'm supposing that would
give the driver a right speaker and the passenger a left speaker for better
clarity while under power and going down the road.

I am 6' 2" + and I have sat in Kelvin's drivers seat. The way his coach is
arranged with seating and dash location, I had no problems with the console
clearance. I have more problems with the ends of the overhead cabinets in
my 78 Royale. Those cabinets are head knockkers for sure.

Much better sound with those extra speakers. All four were upgraded.
The bigger, better speakers just barely fit behind the OEM roof grills.
I started with a Left and Right speaker in the console but eventually
wired it so that BOTH speakers in the console are "Right". Yes, the
speakers are backwards for the Copilot's ears but how could you tell?
It works best for balancing sound this way.

Men's Mall has lots of these overhead consoles. Check Suburbans, Blazers, Tahoes, etc. make sure that you get all the wire length that you can grab. At least grab the connectors, hard to find cheap. I have found the the temperature sensor is generally located about 1/2 way up the inside of the center support of the grille. Some center consoles have better shapes than others. Pull-A-Part charges about $10 for these, so venture forth and acquire more GMC projects. Never enough.

Kelvin, Question on your overhead console that you installed in your GMC, is the speaker housing that surrounds the Blazer console something that Custom Audio fabricated for you or was there a Blazer with that configuration? I have been searching the net and cannot find any Blazer consoles that have the speaker housing. I did notice bondo in the picture of the backside of the console.
Thanks,
Phil
