Rob,
Just wondering if this is what you do with all of your old "spanners" (wrenches). Maybe this guy gets them from Sears...

John,

This bloke is seriously talented!

BTW a spanner is a generic term for a wrench there are:

A) Open end spanners = open end wrench
B) Ring spanners = box end wrench
C) Shifting spanners = adjustable wrench

JohnS is getting used to "Strine;" he knows what I'm talking about when I ask him for any one of those and also a torch
(flashlight).

Regards,
Rob M.

Whatta yall call that tool which has a couple of pins sticking out of a ring, used to tighten or loosen outer rings around a threaded something?  Here, that's a 'spanner' or 'spanner wrench' the latter of which is redundant to an Aussie,.  A large one might be used to cinch up the bolt hoding the propeller to the crankshaft in some airplanes.

Johnny,

It too would be a spanner, it might or might not be called a ring spanner (box wrench).

Call them what you want. There is nothing like having good quality tools. I have never hesitated to invest in quality tools. It seems that every time I buy a cheap tool I regret it.

I used to say that I owned every tool known to man. Now I think I have two of every tool known man. I just wish I could find them.

Some of my most prized possessions are the tools that I inherited from my father and grandfather.

Gives you something to look for at those week-end yard or estate sales. I always look in the garage first, but never considered the odd old wrenches. One man's scrap is another man's treasure.
