The question came up about when the airbag cones were changed over to aluminum. I was under the impression that GM started with plastic and switched to aluminum when the plastic cones experienced some failures. Then some more knowledgeable people said that even later cones were plastic.

The parts manual only has one number for the cones.

Anyone know what went on with the cones during production and whether there was a changeover or whether plastic and aluminum were both used throughout production? If the latter, why would they do that?

Thanks

Richard
