Based on some scary stories on this forum I was motivated to change my oil cooler lines (among other parts). My question is - would the original lines have had a blue fiber wrap, rather than black? They looked to be in pretty good shape, but I consider it cheap insurance.

One of mine was blue on the Pig. Cannot say whether stock or not. I replaced both of mine with stainless from Applied. The others looked ok on the outside but they are high pressure lines and After a new motor and everything else I wasn't about to chance it.

I and others here will highly recommend replacing those lines before one breaks. After 30 years they are rock hard. The stainless braided lines from JR and sold by Jim K. are in my opinion the best way to go. It might just save you a blown engine or breakdown on the road.

Blue is not original get the stainless & Teflon lines and be done with it.

I can see that I should have rephrased that;
"Replacing them is cheap insurance"
- I put a new set of Jim K's braided stainless lines on yesterday
