G'day,

I just bought two OEM GMC offset swivel seat mounts with the trapezoidal bases from Cinnabar. I intend to use these for the Honda
seats in Double Trouble. They were $40 each plus $100 for packing and shipping to Houston. They have two heights available 8 inches
and 10 inches. The trapezoidal base is the same for both heights the swivel plate is higher in the 10 inch version. I opted for the
8 inch high model the seat height can be adjusted by installing square box tubing between the swivel plate and the Honda seat base.

Rob M.

That is an absolutely absurd shipping charge. We routinely ship 500 lb wheeling machines in a 52x60x12" crate across the country for less than $2-300.

Doesn't it really suck ass that it costs more to ship something than the thing itself?

Truck freight.

I'm guessing worst case these things are less than 18x18x8" and weigh less than 20 lbs. That would be $28 bucks standard mail each. Two of them in an 18x18x18 box weighing 40 lbs would be less than $38.

Unless you need overnight expedited delivery, $100 is absurd. Since you are currently on the other side of the world, getting them to Houston tomorrow probably isn't a priority.

Kerry,

I've got a pair in Houston at the storage facility I've asked John to weigh and measure them for us.

So now you're wondering why does he want another pair - for the GMC here in Sydney.

It's high until you realize it's time consuming and that guy can't be doing his other jobs. Also some creative packaging has to be done to prevent the sharp corners from poking through and getting ruined. Not defending Cinnabar as much as saying that I have been less than impressed with the packaging jobs that arrive barely intact from "our venders" with corners exposed. Not mentioning name. A little more care going out the door is well spent to prevent wasted time on returns and paperwork for customer and vendor alike. Good, fast, cheep. Pick any 2 and only 2. Can't have all three.

G'day,

Got a note from Cinnabar that the seat bases were shipped today; they boxed the bases up in two boxes that weighed 40.9 lbs each. I
copied the info below from a .pdf file from Steve Rourke at Cinnabar so got a bit messed up and I had to edit it so it would make
sense somewhat.

20287111 PEDESTAL ASSY DR & PASS USED 40.00 EA = 80.00 TOT

1 OF 2
39E721 DEC 5, 2013 ALL CURR USD SVC GNDRES ACT UT 40.9 LBS TRACKING** 1Z39E7210344176962
HANDLING CHARGE 2.46 SINGLE-PIECE NR RATE CHRGS:
TOT NR CHG 34.39 NR+HANDLING 36.85

2 OF 2
39E721 DEC 5, 2013 ALL CURR USD SVC GNDRES ACT UT 40.9 LBS TRACKING** 1Z39E7210343022576
HANDLING CHARGE 2.46 SINGLE-PIECE NR RATE CHRGS:
TOT NR CHG 34.39 NR+HANDLING 36.85

As you can see they charged $2.46 handling, I'd say that's more than reasonable.

The bottom line was $153.70.

BTW below the text of the email to which the pdf file was attached:

Quote:

Rob,

The seat pedestals will ship today, I've have attached a PDF with the tracking #'s and the break down of the shipping cost which may
help answer any questions from the GMC net.

Thank you for choosing
Cinnabar Engineering, Inc.
For your GMC Motorhome parts needs.

Unquote:

I DID NOT tell him that there were comments from the GMCnet about shipping, maybe he monitors it. At any rate it looks like he knows
you guys pretty well! ;-)

Kerry,
I just removed my swivel base, and the thing is much heavier than I would have anticipated. Much. GM wasn't looking to save weight, that's for sure. It does make me wonder about some of the replacement seat bases and how stout their attachments are to the coach. I wouldn't trust a seat base just bolted to the plywood.

I'll be putting in new seats with attached shoulder belts and I'm less concerned now knowing I have some leeway in the weight department to make sure the seat and my keister stay where I bolt them.

Steve,

That's strange; I could have sworn that Steve told me he had a few sets of 8" bases.

When you get some time could you post a picture of a 10" base. I'll try and get some photos of my 8" high base so we can see the
difference and determine what it would take to lower a 10" base.

Regards,
Rob M.

Yeah he thought he did. They were on a pallet on the top of the rack. When he got them down it turned out they were 8" bases created by PO's and not well done.

OK - I'll get some pics. Steve thought that Honda seats would fit OK on the 10" bases. We will see.

BTW the order was placed Monday and the bases got here on Friday.

Steve,

Thanks!

Hmmmmm, from your pictures I think the pair that I had before I bought the pair from Cinnabar may be 10"!

I'm going to have to ask John Sharpe to measure both pairs.
