G'day,

I sent in an email to have the Insurance on Double Trouble cancelled since I won't be driving it until next June / July and got the
following response from USAA.

Quote

Dear Mr. Mueller,

Thank you for your email. We understand your concern and that you cannot call in. We want to make sure we are not leaving you with a
lapse in insurance coverage. We can offer you the storage discount that can reduce your rate up to 80%. If you would like to take
advantage of this please reply I agree to the following terms:

As a unique benefit of USAA membership, you can reduce your premium up to 80% by adding a Vehicle Storage Discount. To qualify, you
must agree to the following conditions:

- The vehicle will not be driven for 21 consecutive days or more.
- The vehicle will not be driven while in storage.
- The vehicle will be stored in a secure location.
- I will remove the Storage Discount before driving the vehicle.

If you drive a vehicle while receiving the Storage Discount:

- Coverage for bodily injury and property damage liability will be reduced to the minimum amounts allowed by law.
- Collision and comprehensive coverage will only apply if your vehicle is financed.
- Rental reimbursement and towing and labor (if applicable) will not be covered.

If you would like to cancel the policy completely please just let us know.

We value your business and the opportunity to serve all your financial needs.

Thank you,
Melody Candia

I'll follow up on this and ask them what the discount will be.

Stay tuned!

Rob,
I have always put unused cars and the GMC on Vacation when they were not going to be used. It is typically pretty low cost. Ends up being about 15 to 20% of on the road cost. Good deal as it keeps your coach protected against loss, theft, fire and other damages while in storage.

GREAT deal! Strange I never thought to ask for such a discount in the 35
years I've had motor homes covered by them. I'll contact them next week
for more details such as how often it can be implemented, etc.

Thanks, Rob. I owe you (but NOT all the premiums I SHOULD have saved!).

I advised my Agent just this past week that the Murray is off the road till further notice (over the winter). They don't require it to be in a "secure" place, its just sitting in the driveway at the new place right now.
Saves quite a bit of $$$ each year.

Hmmm, wish I could stay out of mine for 21 days. Sits in my driveway now. Will be driven every month or so til spring. Heck, Teri won't even let me drive it. I got to find a friend to do it. Maybe I will contact progressive Monday after I sneak a good warmup ride in it while Teri is at the store.
Thanks,

They tried to send me to Progressive several years ago when they first made
whatever their agreement is. I didn't go. Don't like that company. I
don't know what the pro's/con's of that decision are, but I still don't
like that company.

Dan,

It is unfortunate that Teri won't drive it. Mary loves driving ours. If driving it is going to be a problem, Look at how to store a marine engine for the winter. We do this all the time up here in the north country. They smoke in the spring, but they do that for years and years.

Do the getting better thing.

Len,

I screwed up!

I have two policies that I got through Progressive:

1) Car insurance on the VW Beetle I'm building. Even though it's not a running vehicle I get insurance on it because it covers me
for liability on rental cars. The Chase UA Master Card covers me for collision, etc. USAA personnel wrote this policy. This is the
policy they've offered the storage insurance on.

2) Motorhome insurance - the same thing happened to me and Progressive personnel wrote that policy. I cancelled this policy but did
not receive an offer for storage insurance when I did.

I don't like Progressive, either. However, USAA quit insuring motorized RVs and picked Progressive to be their "sub-contractor." I did get agreed value of $10k with them. I cancelled my motorcycle insurance with Progressive several years ago and went with GEICO for lots less than what I had been paying with Progressive.

Founder/Owner of Progressive is well-known as a backer of far-left causes.

I quit AARP, too, for the same reasons!

Ken, I really don't like any insurance company, but I have had Progressive for the last 8 years (incl agreed value on the GMC) and I have to say they have been 100% for service, claim fairness, on line experience, and rates. I routinely check the competition but at least in AZ I consider them excellent.

If you can stand the stench of its leaders' political agenda, that's fine.
I can't.

USAA also tried to send me to Progressive on my GMC. I refused and went to State Farm on my coach. I still have USAA on 2 of our cars and State Farm on the other two. I have my our motorcycles on a third company. I was going to switch my house insurance to USAA until they quoted my daughter double what she could find elsewhere on her house.

We have great rates on our cars but you have to look at each transaction with them to see whether they are a good deal or not.

Because USAA is also sending all motorcycles to Progressive I looked elsewhere.

Because all of my motorcycles are over 25 years old I got insurance with a company that does collectors. I have full coverage agreed value and every bike costs $50 per year or less. Every time I add one the rate for it goes down. They assume I can only ride one a time. I have one friend that has 14 bikes with them. On the last one they charged him $2.00.

My Dad the judge always advised myself and brother against State Farm and Allstate because "I see them in my courtroom much more often than others."  This was decades ago, they may have changed.  However, when an Allstate insured t-boned my wife by running alight -with two cops and an EMT at the intersection as witnesses -it took three years to get a settlement out of them.  Standing in the hallway in a North Georgia coutroom, their guy became reasonable.  As my lawyer told the guy, "You know you could have settled for a third of this at the outset."  Which they could.   They were about ten minutes away from him telling a jury in appalachia "Here's this nice little ol' lady who was FOULLY WRONGED BY THIS BIG YANKEE INSHOANCE COM{ANY!"  They'll objrect, but the damage is done.  Thre's not a lot of limit to what a country - boy jury will award in that circumstance.

""If you can stand the stench of its leaders' political agenda, that's fine.
I can't""

I guess I'm not on top of that issue--maybe I don't want to know Smile

I have to defend USAA and State Farm on claims. Allstate is another story. Also claims that make it to court are rare and usually involve suing the opposite person for medical pain and suffering not property damage.

I had an accident with an Allstate insured and Allstate low balled the estimate on my car. I turned it over to State Farm who fixed my car. I asked the adjuster how he was going to get his money back. He said "I'll put this on my desk and the next time Allstate has a claim against us, I'll attach the two claims together and subtract the difference between them. That is what I'll pay."

I've also had great experiences with State Farm, but I also have multiple policies with them. When we have had a claim, they've been very fair and quick to take care of it. The roofs on my home and business were replaced after a hail storm with no questions, and when my kids had their accidents that totaled a couple of cars, their settlements were more than I could have sold the cars for.

The only real issue I have is they don't allow you to go to a storage coverage for unused motorhomes. Seems like I'm paying a lot for a Motorhome that spends most of it's time just sitting still. I wish that Hagerty or another specialty collector insurance would cover the GMC as well. It certainly qualifies as a classic!

Ken, I really don't like any insurance company, but I have had Progressive for the last 8 years (incl agreed value on the GMC) and I have to say they have been 100% for service, claim fairness, on line experience, and rates. I routinely check the competition but at least in AZ I consider them excellent.

Bob,

Be glad you left Michigan. (I mean, just one more reason.) A few years ago they added a tax to annual vehicle insurance. Each and every vehicle insured pays 100$ per year into the state uninsured claims fund. So, one day this guy goes to get the new policy for his 30yo Honda 350(4) and he is expecting it to be ~40$ - Right? He usually bough this out of the carried pocket cash....
The nice lady says "Oh, it's gone up a bit, 143$" !!!
"That's not a bit, what happened to the 40$ policy?"
"Well the insurance is 43$ and the assessment is 100$."
"See Ya" and I never went back or rode that bike after the existing policy expired.

Now I drive our carrier crazy because I refuse to insure all our cars at once. So, like now the Tracker is back on until I decide if I'm going to put a new belt in the ALCR (special version of a PLD - Neon for the challenge series).

The coach is on an "Authentic Plate" registration that is a one time fee of 85$. Good for as long as I own it. But, I do have a real agreed value policy that is not cheap, but I would hate if I got T-boned by some drunk and his insurance paid me the book value.

Matt
