Has anyone out there put a standard 6 gal gas rv water heater in a GMC? Where and how? The PO took out the original and put in a residential 6 gal electric under the refrig and I don't like it at all. What is my best solution?

I updated my hot water heater with an Atwood 6 gal marine unit 110Vac and coolant heat from the coach engine. NO END of hot water available with the coach running.

If you go this route, order the optional coolant temp control system [about $75 as I recall] as without it, the coach coolant can heat the water to the point where you can't get cold water from the bathroom taps for a while after you park!

I've had mine in ten years now and it works great and fits in the stock hole. On my coach, the stock hole is under the bathroom counter on a bracket on the wheel well.

I have considered the instant wh but have been concerned with the extra heat behind the refrig and also exiting the exhaust although that seems to be handled in these two examples. Thanks for the info I will do more study but will probably go with this.

Lane,
Go with what?? If going with the 6 gallon LP water heater, look into one
that will do both LP and 120v. I put one into my daughter's coach (a 23'
1973 Painted Desert model) several years ago and it works well; if you want
hot water in a hurry, you can run the LP and the electric heater at the
same time. As for the on demand water heater, I put one into my coach
several years ago. Even if you were to run it for 5 minutes, the amount of
heat generated is not that much; I vented the heat thru an aluminum dryer
pipe up to near the top of the coach where the vent opening is. Most of
the time, we run the on demand heater less than a minute except when
showering, and it's a quick shower at that.
