Who's the Rosta cruise control guru now that we've lost Duane Simmons?
Since I've never touched on, I wasn't of any help to Frank Jenkins when he
called to say
his has quit. If anyone can help, call him, or I'll put you in contact if
you don't have his number.

When neither Duane nor I could get mine to operate properly, I asked Jim
Bounds to check it out while the coach was at the COOP. He had it working
correctly in about 15 min IIRC.

How can an alternator need a ground? It is mounted with three bolts to the master ground (the engine block).

Where would you run the ground lead from and to?

I studied the book that Dwayne sent me, especially for the GMC. About two hours install time and we were up and running. Ran great til we upgraded the steering tree. Lost a ground wire. Traced that down and back in business. I would never want the original. In fact, I gave it away. Did not care if it did work. I like modern equipment on my old clunkers. I love all of you guys, especially those who have gone on, who are willing to spend time and money to update our coaches. Just how I am. Guess that's why our coach has almost every upgrade available except the semi slip in our new final drive.

The alternator sets up an EMI field and the Rostra unit is very sensitive
to this. Jim fixed mine by simply moving it further away from the
alternator.

I installed mine and never had a problem after that. I have no idea where the book for it is. That is why I did not volunteer to help. I did rework the brake light switch cruise switch so it does not rely on the brake lights working. I did that at installation time.

I use it all the time. One in a great while I do get it confused and have to power it off and back on again.

My new used toad has the Ford cruise control steering wheel, and the plug is on the column.  Anybody know if the Rostra uses the Ford series of commands, or the Dodge series?  Both have off - on.  Ford uses increse as the set control and has a decrease and resume button.  Dodge has a seperate set control and a disengage along with faster and slower buttons.  Faster is resume.

Steve I have it mounted inside under the couch.
I'll give it a try.
Maybe build a sheet metal box or some thing to block electronic field from the EMI?
Thanks

Howard,

I had a conversation a few years ago with Duane S. about how my Rostra would drop off lots of times when cruising down the road. He sent me a copy of his Rostra installation instructions. They had a Note at the bottom warning about alternator electrical interference and to run a 6 AWG wire from the alternator to the aluminum engine hatch frame. Never had a problem with my cruise control after adding that ground wire. Just hook your ground wire to a bolt that touches the alternator case and run it to the engine hatch frame. No need to build a metal box.
