A pop-up add showed up here today for A/C compressors. I don't know anything about them, but if you are looking for a compressor, you might wish to check out www.buyautoparts.com

I have no connection or recommendation for this outfit.

They showed a new replacement for 1976 GMC M/H (Sanden SD709 Number 7402 with clutch) at $240.10, OEM new with clutch at $391.05, and reman with clutch at $195.

Caveat emptor, as usual.

My recommendation would be to stick with our trusted vendors whenever possible. Both Jim K and Ken Frey have been extremely helpful to me and I will reward them with my business any time I can.

Thanks guys!

If your going to use a Sanden, you'll need a special mount.
We have that now and will have the Sanden units when they send us the correct one.
There are some that appreciate us and most that don't care .

I did this dance about three years ago. The supplier claimed it was a bolt-in for the GM A6.

Well, it wasn't, and shipping it back and forth was no cheap. I ended up get the seal and the clutch redone on my A6. It is still running and it fits.

If I decide to do something like that again. I'll wait until JimK says he has a kit that works.

If mine craps out, I would probably go to the Sanden, but the old A6 has to be one of the best AC compressors of all time and can still be a good alternative.

Remember, we are only caretakers of the GMC Legacy. Our job is to, first,
do no harm, and second, protect and preserve them for the next set of
caretakers who follow in our good example. We owe them no less than that.
My opinion, yours may vary.

Jim, we are the legacy and have probably created more interest and fun than GM ever imagined. To protect and preserve sounds nice but all that is up to the next generation. I doubt they will give a crap and frankly I wouldn't blame them.

I got the Sanden unit, it fits our Sanden mount, but the hose manifold will not, so if you think there is one that has the manifold to fit our GMC, let me know.
You'll need to redo the hose anyway as a 35 year old ones will leak when we crimp it to the fittings that fit the Sanden.
Sanden will not tool up a unit to fit our existing manifold as there is not enough demand from old classic units
Again we get wrong info for others to get excited about without trying them.
Being a Automotive Jobber(Parts Store) we can bring in anything and return them with no penalty as long as we send it back in the same box.
When Steve Ferguson did the test on Fan Clutches I provided him with the parts and returned the ones we did not want to stock..
