Me, too. Just spent 15 minutes speaking with a RVN (Republic of Viet Nam) veteran in the grocery store. Marine grunt stationed up north. Can't still speak of that war without politics and recriminations coming out, but we parted friends, I hope. I
figured it was the politicians at fault, he thought the demonstrators scuppered the win right at the crucial time.
I just have to go back to the E6 African American cook in Soc Trang, the cook for the 121st Combat Helicopter Aviation Company. He kept saying, "It don't mean nothing." All purpose philosophy for the army enlisted man. He did give us some steaks for a cookout for some holiday or other.
It don't mean nothing.
See?

Thank you all.
My father was a Silver Star recipient in WWII and refused to discuss any war service. Typical of his generation.
My time in seems trivial.

I wish that I had asked my Dad more about his service during WWII before he
died in 2011. Now I have a great desire to know more. I sent away for my
Dad's service records (as well as my own), and was amazed at the amount of
info I received. Every scrap of paper that had my Dad's name on it during
his service was included! I enjoy learning the details and locations.
If anyone else is interested in learning about a loved one's military
service history, here is a good place to start:

No need for him to discuss - the medal speaks for him.
