I suspect that simply eating Ginger Snap cookies might be cheaper, maybe at least as effective, and more pleasurable! These have been used by boaters for many years to help out.

Stick, try ginger capsules for motion sickness. available at health food
stores.
Way less than $125 to try.

Try MotionEaze Little vial of oils like peppermint and others. You put one drop on your finger tip and rub on your head right behind your earlobe on both sides of your head. No groggy side effects. One vial will last you quite a while.

When sailing, I found that if I could see the horizon everything was good. When I went below I could feel the sea sickness coming on. Your brain, inner ear and stomach nerves are all arguing and it makes you feel ill.
While riding in the coach try to keep looking out the window at the horizon if possible.
No drugs or cookies needed.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the remedies, guys. Believe me, I've tried them all. I can not even watch a movie with a lot of motion (Perfect Storm) without nausea.

Porch swings drive nuts.

Stick,

My Dad found out I had a problem with motion sickness when he took me to Palisades Park and we rode the roller coaster. I puked out
the side of the car after the first drop!

It was particularly embarrassing for me as a Hamilton Standard Field Rep as I'd get queasy upon approach but if I was lucky and
could direct a blast of cool air from the gaspers in the overhead I could make it without a Technicolor yawn.

I stumbled on to some bands that pressed on what the Chinese called the nei wan (sp?) pressure points on the underside of your
wrists which worked amazingly well for me. I carry a pair whenever I fly.

Regards,
Rob M.

I spent 9 days on a 52 foot sailboat in constant heavy seas. The wrist
bands that zap you are crap. Being up top in the breeze was the only
thing that would make the nausea subside. I think the bands are meant to
distract you from the real problem by giving you a little shock.

On a subsequent trip (yes, I tried it again) on a 110 footer, a ginger
pill the first day was all I needed, although the seas were pretty
light. One wave of nausea but a quick glance back at the horizon helped
choke it down.

I think I'll just skip the boat and buy me a big ol' box of Ginger Snaps and a tall glass of cold milk and sit out on the deck and watch the Gulf of Mexico. Smile

Dan,

The wrist bands I have do not "zap" me, they do not have any electrical connections and they work for me.

http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/sea-band-wristband/ID=prod2662944-product

Read the customer comments.

Maybe my motion sickness is psychosomatic and my belief in the bands is why they work. ;-)

They only cost $12 so what the hell!

Yeah, I think the ones the skipper had were the $125-type ones.
Definitely zapped!

Not planning on a sail any time soon but next time, I'll look at these.

David,

No bloody way would I spend $125!!!

Reminds me of the Relax-a-sisor my Mom bought in the 1960's. It was a system that had patches you would stick wherever you wanted to
loose weight and it would send electrical charges to the muscles every so often and cause them to contract.

Regards,
Rob

Placebo effect is quite real.  If it works for you, keep it up.  Options are dramamine or scopalomine patches.  Both will make you sleepy to a degree, but when the option is the ongoing taste of a$$hole and/or shoe leather, they're golden.  My father used tio get seasick standing on floating docks in the Alabama lakes, or the front porch (deck?) of our houseboat.  Brother inherited it from him.  Fortunately I didn't.

Myth Busters tested a number of non prescription remedies, ginger was far
and away the most effective.

Plato seems wrong to me today.

26 years in the USN, and all but 11 of them at sea. 15-20 typhoons, 6
weeks in a storm in the Bearing sea. Never so much as a queasy feeling.
Loved those short chow lines too. Years later I get in a driving
simulator at the San Bernadino Sheriff's EVOC training facility and within
one minute I was dripping perspiration and looking for a place to empty my
stomach into. Worse feeling I've ever had. The next class day back in San
Diego I told my instructor that if I had to do that to pass, I wasn't going
to make it. He asked me why I didn't put the wristbands on. "Didn't know
about them" I responded. He told me to look on the instructors desk for
small wrist bands that looked like sweat bands for tennis players and take
a couple and put them on with the sewn in beads pressing against the inside
of my wrist. Magic. PFM! I guess the term is acupressure and it really
worked.

I'm going to give the wrist band a try. I pass up deep-sea fishing almost daily because of the problem. My buddy with the boat would bring me back in if the bands didn't work.

Thanks for the tips...and I still love Ginger Snaps.

My bride (who is a real "nervous Nellie" when as passenger
in ANY vehicle swears by Meclazine (not sure of spelling).
Even the old Dramamine has changed their pills to this. I
can't tell you if it works or not (on our last cruise the
pursers desk was handy them out like candy) but we had VERY
rough seas for 2 days and I never got sick. The reason that
I cannot tell of they work or not is that I never got drowsy
(understand that I get fall asleep even using products that
claim to NOT make you drowsy).
