A few years ago my original fan clutch failed within minutes with no warning in the mountains. As others have evaluated, it is almost impossible to find a good replacement. Yes, you can luck out and get a good one but it is a total crap shoot. Within one part number, the Chinese replacements vary all over the map regardless or the ratings. A year ago one of our netters found a few OEM Delco units on line and I finally installed it today. I had forgotten how a good fan clutch can operate. It has a perfect ramp up at the right temp and and so far doesn't suffer from morning sickness (even though that's a minor issue)

I bought one of the 15-4208 on ebay also. I installed it shortly after I received it about 18 months ago.
The bearings went out on the unit after about 10K miles.
I installed the Hayden 2797 severe duty as a replacement.
I just found a web site showing the Grapevine TX manufacture process of the Hayden fan clutch.

Click on the Grapevine, TX manufacture operation to view.

The Hayden 2797 is the one I removed--It was on almost constantly. Even though Hayden is making improvements, these clutches and their individual performance seems to be all over the map.

""Bob,
As I said, I installed the 15-4208 and it failed. I am simply explaining my experience. I installed the Hayden 2797 and I'll see what happens. Hayden makes several different fan clutches and maybe the 2797 is not what I stick with.
I posted the link for those interested. Many owners want 'Made in America' and that is what Hayden is manufacturing.
Let us know how the 4208 holds up.

I wasn't being critical Larry. A while ago there was a long long thread about various people's experiences with fan clutchs and it seemed that almost everyone had different experiences even with the same part numbers. My neighbor in the storage lot had a good experience with the 2797 so I got one and didn't like it. Steve Ferguson did extensive work on clutches and I'm sure the results are Gene Fisher's site. I also recall that some part numbers had made in USA as well as China depending on when and where they were purchased. If mine does the job for 2 years, I'll consider myself satisfied.
