I have a 1975 Eleganza II. I'm just finishing winterizing. How do you get the pink RV antifreeze through the external water fill pipe, or do you need to worry about that?

Yes, you need to worry about that.

No, you shouldn't need to put pink stuff in, you need to get the water out. I blow it out with air. Most places selling any RV supplies should have an adapter.

Some just remove the city water fill.

I did blow it out with air, drained the tanks, added stabil to the gas,and added the pink stuff down all the drains. I even pumped the pink stuff through the macerator, as someone suggested. Am I done then?

Ernie,

If you really blew it all out by putting air in the city water pressure connection then - yes.

Did you run the flush on the pot until there was NO water coming out? (That is a favorite gotcha.) If that isn't clear, the Thetford pots break a 45$ valve.

Did you open the drain valve on the water heater while you had air pressure on the system? This will leave several quarts in the heater, but it won't hurt anything. Remember to shut off the power to the heater.

You don't have a coach description in the sigfile. If it is a 73 or 74 it may have mid-line drains behind the galley and copper plumbing. If it does have copper, be sure to blow out the taps in the head and the shower line as there are low spots that can be damaged.

It's not a bad idea to disconnect the fresh water feed to the toilet and then flush to make sure there's no water anywhere!

Don't forget to reconnect it before filling the fresh water tank in the Spring!

You probably know how I am aware of that on both ends of the calendar!

Also, disconnect and drain the filter and make sure there's no water left in the pump.

You don't put it into the fill as you don't want to put it into your fress water tank. It would take too much.

You use one of these to draw the RV antifreeze directly into the pump.
http://www.adventurerv.net/winterization-winterizing-water-siphon-kit-camper-p-284.html

Then you also want to have one of these to bypass the water heater:

You can buy these at about any RV parts place, Camping World , ebay and other such places.

I like receiving the FMCA magazine - there is something tactile and wonderful about the paper issue. I’m certainly no expert on winterizing, here in the Bay Area winterizing is going from a light sweater to a little heavier sweater, but there is an article in the FMCA Magazine about winterizing that I thought was informative.

<http://www.fmcmagazine.com/motorhome-articles/7535-winterizing>

I found one note kind of queer talking about tire storage:
"Placing tires on a plastic barrier will prevent wicking of their natural rubber lubricants into cement or asphalt and drying out."

An old wives tale or is there any bit of truth to this? Do tires fling their essential oils into the concrete or asphalt while spinning down the road.

That's why people have trouble with the external fill freezing--it is one of the most common items people overlook. There is a drain for that assembly behind the closet wall but it's a bit difficult to get to. I advocate a shot of pink antifreeze into the fill assembly either with a hose or baster.

Sounds to me like some are talking about the pressurized city water hookup, and others are talking about the tank fill. At least mine has two separate. I don't do anything to the water fill as it is a 1" or greater water line that gravity feeds to the fresh water tank.

I blow out the city water connection. Then I pump RV antifreeze through the water lines (I have bypass shut offs for the water heater)and out everything, toilet included.
