Larry- I am in Morristown, New Jersey.

Carey- Thanks for the heads up. I have not been able to figure out the
mechanism for adding the bio/signature stuff you mentioned. Perhaps I had to
do that when first registering?

Sean- Thank you for the invite, I will be in touch. Gotta ferry the kids to
a haunted house this evening, so I will try and give you a call tomorrow
evening. From your photos it looks like you did a real clean job on your
vehicle, I would love to see it up close.

Bill - Also thank you for your affer, I will email you on a separate thread.

Rob et al - I am not going to touch the issue of websites, colors, fonts,
etc, but thanks for the link. I am assuming Ken Frey's company gets your
vote of approval, and I also gather you are not exactly local to this
hemisphere?

I also came across a craigslist ad-
http://jerseyshore.craigslist.org/rvs/4097041110.html I will probably go and
have a look in a couple of days. I will leave the checkbook at home, I
suspect that old saying about "wed in haste, repent at leisure" might apply
to buying motorhomes too.

Sir: welcome. In looking for a GMC I would suggest checking the frame very carefully, specially if it has lived in a salty environment. As some rust and some don`t or haven`t yet. Most everstuff can be replaced or repaired; the frame is one of the most $$$. Take coveralls and get down and dirty in checking where the rear bogies bolt on and the front frame section. Good luck in your quest. This coach came from NJ.

I would suggest checking with local clubs and try to find one that has been cared for and used. Just cause it costs the most don`t mean it is the best.

I'd leave the checkbook at home on that one, too. It seems like a LOT of money for a coach in that kind of shape (unless there's really something that doesn't show up in the description, and particularly photos). You'd almost immediately have to paint it and put 16" wheels and tires on it, so your investment would go WAY up, and you'd just be at the point where a typical "nice coach" on the market should start (since most of 'em have nice enough paint and have already changed the wheels out to aluminum 16" rims and modern tires).

IMHO, $10k should buy you a pretty nice coach that doesn't need much at all to be useable, and that won't embarrass you. $15k can get you a pretty much read-to-roll example that might need some detail work here and there. By the time you're dropping $20k into a coach, it should be VERY nice, and ready for use as-is (not that that keeps us from continuing to spend money on 'em, of course...).

The old saw about them all being "$25k coaches" is pretty much true, though it IS possible to get into one for less that can be used... it's just that - if you're a typical GMC owner - you will still end up spending the difference bringing all the details up to a higher spec. I know I'm in the process of doing that myownself...

Let's see; 16" wheels at $230 each (JmK Eagle). Tires at $120 each ( ballpark).
Paint $5000 to $6000. What else is not visible by photo inspection.
Shame with the pretty interior.

Peter,

Ken has been a Mechanic twice forever and has had his own shop forever. He works on cars but his specialty is GMC Motorhomes. He cut
his teeth on Toronados at an Oldsmobile Dealer back in the day.

When I bought Double Trouble he picked it up from the seller and brought it back to his shop. I gave him the marching orders to "fix
anything that will kill us or leave us stranded by the side of the road." He did just that and while we had problems on our first
tour nothing that he had looked at, gone over, or repaired was involved.

Yes, I would recommend Ken any day of the week to work on your GMC.

I am a Yank that retired to Sydney in 2003 with his Aussie bride; we keep a GMC in Houston to use to tour the USA during the
Australian winters.

Regards,
Rob M.

Peter,
I an not in New Jersey, but over the boarder in Pennsylvania, not far from Key Frey near Quakertown PA. I have been a back yard mechanic for many years and do most of my own work. I highly recommend Ken Fry for any GMC work. If you are over this way to meet Ken, I would be happy to give you a tour of my coach and a walk through of the various RV systems, some of which are unique to the GMC.

Peter,

I have done some "research" into how to change my bio/signature line and have come up empty. I do believe that there is an easy way, but that like much else, escapes me. I am confident that someone who knows will have mercy on us and give us the secret, or obvious, way to do that.

Thanks for your response to all trying to help you. I think you are an ideal candidate for a GMC MH. This is an interesting phenomenon. You are reaching out to the community, which is responding to you, and you will learn all the much faster for it.

Best,

Carey from Ennis, Texas 78 Royale, 500 Cadillac, Rance Baxter EFI.

OK, Peter
Tell us what you use for an email program. Then we might be able to tell you how to do it.

It looks to me like you have a signature line. What do you want to change?

Steve-

Just wanted to thank you for the offer, I am going to see Sean Kidd's coach
this weekend, learn a bit more about things. I do hope to get out your way
some time after that and will email you at that point.
