I was told a prototype version of this caddy sold for $24k in 1956 dollars. It was shipped to the dealer on its own rail car.

It was NOT marked as a biaritz, simply Eldorado. It was invoiced as a "parade car" and came with fiberglass shrouds to cover the back seats. The dealer said it also had a prototype engine, but that's all I know. It did have two 4-barrel carbs and would bury the speedo.

No, it was a '56 model both from the title and the tailfins.
I drove this Eldorado as an occasional beater/partyingcar from 1966 until approx 1970. It was later sold as a project car.
It was a 2-door convertible (power), with photocell dimming, elec bench seat in front, elec windows, elec trunk closing/locking assist, and what I believe is called the 'wonderbar' radio. Some of it's most distinguishing features: Spoked alloy wheels and a very fine, decorative chrome 'mesh' on some of the dash & door panels.
We seem to have good caddy knowledge here, so it's worth asking about what it might be. I was 16-20 at the time so some of my recollections are vague and some are most definitely based on hearsay. But I do know for sure that no where on it did it say 'Biaritz' but it was identical in trim to many 1956 Eldorado Biaritz pictures I've viewed over the years.

It was Bahama Blue with a dove white convertible top. The leather seats were a matching two-tone in sort of a tuck/roll pattern. The dash & door panels were matching blue leather. I remember the photocell being to the right of the instrument panel, but I might easily be mistaken and it could have been on the left like that 57 Brougham. Even for it's time of the land yachts, it was extraordinarily heavy. I have seen center-piston lifts sway (and heard mechanics curse) when it was being serviced.

What i was trying to say that the 56 eldorado convertible was just a standard model
the twin 4 barrels was an option
in 1956 cadillac made a prototype eldorado brougham 4 door which was shown at the motorama exhibits
this prototype was put into production in 1957 these had the twin 4 barrels standard
they only made 400 in 57 and 305 in 58 the previous link was to my cars
i have since sold the gold one but i will still sell the black one if you want
car number 656 of a total of 705
