Andy,
It's best to get the full VIN if you can. The VIN for a GMC Motorhome should begin with the letters TZE. Once you have that, there are people here who can check whether the motorhome has been entered into the GMC Registry, and that can giv you some of its history. You can also find out some basic facts about its construction: http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/faq/vin.html.
Good luck, and welcome to the group.

Todd Thanks that would be great, I was planning on coming to Seattle over the thanksgiving weekend, I asked the owner if i could but some money down and because it is a family estate he thought it would be best not to as someone might have cash in hand. I would be willing to compensate you for your time. let me know Thanks Andy

Before you do anything, make sure you have asked the following questions (and received answers)

1. What size are the wheels (16.5" or 16") and how old are the tires? (date codes from the tires)
2. When was it last run? (driven, not just started)
3. When was it last serviced? Oil, belts, hoses, etc.
4. 29K actual miles or rollover? (likely rollover on a 1973)

These are basic questions. Others, like does generator run and produce AC, how old are the air bags, does the fridge, furnace, and water heater work are good to know but less important.

A few 1973 things. If stock you will have a points distributor, the less desirable windows, and the small bogie pins.

$12K is a lot. It may be a great coach, or it may need a ton of work.

Send me the link or whatever you saw to lead you to it. Maybe I can let you know kind of where your at without even looking at it in person. Maybe at least determine if it is worth a closer look or not.

Andy,

In the case that you haven't noticed, we do out best to use real names in this group. (Yes, his name really is Robin Hood.) This has two real purposes. One is so we know who you are when we meet at a rally or on the road. The other is that if you need assistance and someone sees the line in email or on the forum, he doesn't have to look things up to find out if he is striking range.

Also, we have a cast of characters here that is amazing and this way it is easier for us to keep them straight.

If you do buy a '73, yes there are always issues with the first year's production, but the ignition points is a large one. This is such an easy fix it is just a joke. Buy the Pertronix 1181 kit and screw it in. - Done.

Even if Seattle falls through, do not give up. There are some very nice coaches out there. For the most unfortunate of reasons, more become available every so often. It is best to search all the chapter news letters as well as Craig's list and E(vil)bay. Most of us here did have a life before TZE, but we try not to talk about it.

Matt

I received a response from the seller. He has basically no info or knowledge of the coach but is willing to make an appointment to view it. I will ask for an address to figure out how far out of the way it is and ask him if he has any idea about whether or not it will start (battery health etc) if you wish.
