OK. My last visit to the parts coach will be Sunday Octobet 20th. If you need anything you need to let me know if you haven't already. It will be cheap particularly if you help us remove parts. If you know where it is do not go without coordinating with me. Join us about 10:00 am Sunday if you can make it.

Thanks,

Devin

Charles,

It's been many years now, but I went through what you're doing now. My
donut was awfully sun-dried and cracked, so I took it to an upholstery shop
and had it covered. They made it look similar to the common Cadillac
pattern: Stitched around the face. But they did such an awful job that I
paid them, took it home, and ripped the cover off.

Then I glued 1/4" landau top padding foam over it, which turned out to be
pretty easy -- it followed the contour quite nicely. Then I glued over it
a piece of stretchable vinyl. That also went very well except for one
minor flaw: I only had barely enough material for the job and the one
required visible seam fell right below the radio. That straight lap joint,
glued with 3M upholstery cement, never gave any trouble, but was in a
too-obvious location. If I'd planned ahead better, and/or had sufficient
material to redo it, I'd have placed the seam in a less obvious location
(upper left?) and probably never noticed it again.

It was only an hour job and lasted for 7-8+ years until I replaced the
entire dash.

For those of us going to Gadsden for the Dixielanders and/or the parts coach Sunday keep in mind - the Talladega 500 rolls at 1PM. Unless TV pushes it later in the afternioon. The point being, I 20 will be something oif a joke from about 4P on until fairly late in the evening towards Birmingspam and Atlanta. Depending when you plan on heading out of Gadsden, alternate routing might be a good idea. Both the Alabama and Georgia Do-Rights will be having a feeding frenzy.

Well, it looks as if I have a sick dog, so I will be travelling 'toad-less'. I'll be pleased to help if someone is headed over there from Noccalula Falls and back.
